I have been working at Commonwealth of Pennsylvania full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great Team Approach and Professional Environment.

    Cons

Limited room for growth and advancement.

    Advice to Management

Great Management Team. My advice would be to encourage continuing education more and create programs like tuition reimbursement for employees.

    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Commonwealth of Pennsylvania full-time for less than a year

    Pros

You get a paycheck and some clerical experience. "Temporary" means indefinite.

    Cons

No Guarantee of a Permanent Position No Benefits until you get a Permanent Position Length of Service, Seniority, Hiring Preferences don't apply until management wants them to. Job Descriptions are written by H.R. but they have literally no bearing on what the job entails and most hiring managers don't even know what they say. "Temporary" means indefinite.

    Advice to Management

Come out of your offices and speak candidly with the employees once in a while. Anyone more than six months in a temporary job should get first preference for any job being opened up to applicants Outside the Commonwealth.

I have been working at Commonwealth of Pennsylvania full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Work life is second to none. Pay is reasonable up to pay grade 7 or so. After that, you could probably make more in private sector.

    Cons

Pension is meh. It's ok if you work until normal retirement age, but if you leave to work somewhere else, you get hammered.

    Advice to Management

Remember to nurture those looking to grow. Easy to get lost in your career track. Fight complacency. Many opportunities exist.
