I have been working at Commonwealth of Virginia full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Depending on your supervisor, you can take leave whenever you want. Mine doesn’t micromanage, but she also doesn’t make sure you’re trained properly. So, I guess you have to pick which one you can deal with.

    Cons

You will NOT be trained...PERIOD!! There are a few (and I mean A FEW) classroom training courses, but nothing that will help you as a Support Enforcement Specialist. Their idea of “training” is having you briefly sit with people in different departments watching them fly through screens of a system they aren’t even supposed to be using. They don’t use the new system because they aren’t used to it, have been there forever, & don’t like change. Upper management doesn’t give a doggone about anyone there. You are paid to fill a seat and collect money from NCPs. They don’t care that the training is non-existent & look at suggestions as complaints. The environment is extremely TOXIC & they don’t welcome new staff. They basically harass them daily by asking how long they’re going to stay or if they plan on staying. It is a very sad place to work & I will never suggest anyone work there if you are used to structured training or want to be truly successful at it. Most of the staff that were pleasant admitted that they cried daily there for MONTHS when they first started. Not me...I will quit first!

    Advice to Management

Get a STRUCTURED training curriculum in place. Your disorganization and toxic work environment is why you can’t keep anyone. The people you have won’t leave because they’ve been there forever and don’t want to start a new career. You do not appreciate suggestions that would make the place a more productive environment. That is why you have so many vacant positions and caseloads. You need to change...immediately!!

I have been working at Commonwealth of Virginia full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great Benefits, multiple locations to choose from if you are mobile. Good continuing education packages and perks for cultural events in the state

    Cons

Depending on the agency, poor compensation. Raises are based on petitions from the general assembly. Unless in upper management a single person can't afford living alone without a part-time job. Not enough to live, but too much for assistance.

    Advice to Management

Encourage employees to share their knowledge rather being threatend by what others bring to the table. Encourage team work, for "I" does not exist in "Team"
