I have been working at Commonwealth of Virginia full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    *Friendly people (most of them)
    *My manager doesn’t micromanage
*You MIGHT end up working from home 1-2 days weekly down the line
*Pretty new renovated office & desks
    *Pretty good health insurance choices

    Cons

*HR - Everything with them is slow & disorganized
*Schedule is not flexible for new workers
*Health insurance prices for family is pretty expensive
*Lack of structured training - They “train” you by telling you whatever comes to their heads
*Supervisor showing favoritism to her senior worker who is actually her BFF outside of work (her words) - Unprofessional & unethical behavior allowed from that senior to other workers without reprimand.

    Advice to Management

Please put in place a structured training course so that your “specialists” actually feel like “specialists” when they get out of training. I am feeling set up for failure from the start. Please support a positive work environment by setting high expectations of your supervisors when it comes to the favoritism they show the "friends" that they manage. They should not make it uncomfortable for new workers by allowing their friends to be disrespectful and rude to them from day 1. Nip that behavior in the bud immediately before you lose out on new refreshing, positive, and enthusiastic workers because of the bad behavior of your senior staff.

I have been working at Commonwealth of Virginia full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great Benefits, multiple locations to choose from if you are mobile. Good continuing education packages and perks for cultural events in the state

    Cons

Depending on the agency, poor compensation. Raises are based on petitions from the general assembly. Unless in upper management a single person can't afford living alone without a part-time job. Not enough to live, but too much for assistance.

    Advice to Management

Encourage employees to share their knowledge rather being threatend by what others bring to the table. Encourage team work, for "I" does not exist in "Team"
