Work with very well meaning people, have a positive mission Great retirement and benefits - more time off than you can use, excellent healthcare
Cons
Work with many 'retired in place' people that can't or won't get the job done Most agencies are underfunded so IT work is grabbing for pennies Politics is real. Many agencies get new leadership every 4 years like clockwork

Steady and stable, lower salaries
Nov 17, 2021 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Steady and stable positions. As long as you can show up, so do the paychecks. The benefits aren't bad, with plenty of time off and a pension.
Cons
Salaries can't compete with the private sector. Raises barely keep up with inflation. Employees are constantly looking around to see if the grass is greener outside the state. Some work changes based on political leadership changes.
