I worked at Community College of Aurora part-time

    Pros

Community College of Aurora is a small campus setting with a wonderful diverse demographic.

    Cons

Internal politics as usual, there is always going to be someone trying to "get ahead" at the expense of colleagues.

    Advice to Management

Allow your teachers to teach by minimizing the often negative politics of generating money first, and putting education second.

    Pros

    None I can think of.

    Cons

Low pay, no respect, you are expendable, and told to go on welfare when no work was given. Oh, and so devoted to retention don't even think of being rigorous!

    Advice to Management

Rehire Betsy and fire all other administrators.

I have been working at Community College of Aurora full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are competitive-- best PTO and sick leave I have ever had with an organizations

    Cons

The entire institution is disorganized and unprofessional. Administration lacks communication, and there are many unethical practices that take advantage of a majority minority population.

I have been working at Community College of Aurora full-time

    Pros

The college had an amazing mission, we serve a large population of minority and first generation students, and the people working at the college are great. There is an overall commitment to student success, and I am happy coming to work every day. The college is supportive of new ideas, and there is a true sense of pride walking into work every day.

    Cons

The biggest con is the pay. It is significantly lower than other colleges and community colleges in the area, and unfortunately this is probably a big contributing factor to the high turnover the college sees in staff. It arguably does not match what is needed to live in Denver (especially with the expanding market and high living costs). Despite the low pay, working with great staff and students for a mission I believe in is worth staying for.

    Advice to Management

Increase the base pay to match competitors in the area. The increasing cost of living in Denver should be matched at the college, and would most likely help with the high turnover.

I have been working at Community College of Aurora part-time

    Pros

The Community College of Aurora caters to a diverse, dedicated, and passionate student body that make the job worth while.

    Cons

The Community College of Aurora, like many community colleges, struggles with maintaining programs and organization with a minimal budget.

    Advice to Management

I advise management to leverage funds and employees in strategic and intentional ways so that the institution can continue to create new programs for students and maintain programs that are currently in place.

    Pros

It's a State of CO job...so there are benefits.

    Cons

The benefits don't amount to much when you feel there is no room to grow and pay is low.

    Advice to Management

    Pay attention

I have been working at Community College of Aurora part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Friendly environment with a group of educators who, for the most part, seem passionate about helping students.

    Cons

Very low pay for work put in. Lack of involvement and voice from adjuncts. Many students are unprepared for this level of learning.

    Advice to Management

Work on the high turnaround of employees. Consider more ways to involve adjuncts in decisions versus having dept. operate as if they do not matter. Demand higher skills for students entering the program.

I worked at Community College of Aurora full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Short commute from college to home

    Cons

Management (including College President) did not have leadership skills or smarts to run the organization.

    Advice to Management

Re-train HR staff on the modern world. It was a "sophomoric" environment. Lots of individual favoritism, promotions without actual experience.
