I worked at Community Education Centers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Four weeks training. Consistent hours. Benefits included.

    Cons

Inflexible hours, required to be there 8 to 5, mandatory hour long lunch, Monday through Friday, with no holidays included. Low pay for professionals. Staff in other departments overworked and underpaid, creating safety and compromise concerns. Clients (inmates) were not provided consistent mental health care because of staff turnover and low staffing.

    Advice to Management

Pay staff better. Hire more staff so workers are not burned out from working 70 and 80 hours per week. Become more flexible with professional staff to allow alternate schedules and holidays.

I have been working at Community Education Centers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of time to rest and read books. No one offers training at all.

    Cons

No work ethics; very little structure; no chance to do high-quality work. I went for almost 2 years with no observation, no evaluation, no comment. Counselors are totally unqualified to counsel others.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring people with no skill, no licenses, and no leadership! I can't believe any State would take a bid or contract from this company.

I worked at Community Education Centers (Less than a year)

    Pros

I got to see how a mid-sized business handles its legal matters.

    Cons

Mostly EEOC complaints, not enough feedback, Assistant General Counsel's were very laid back - I prefer a high pace environment.

    Advice to Management

Be more efficient, spend your time wisely, always have something for the intern to do.

    Pros

You will definitely get alot of experience in Corrections. You will work like you've never worked before in a environment like you've never worked before around questionable fellow employees.

    Cons

55pm you have to stay till 11pm /80hrs a week is the normal. One will get 1 lunch break for 30 min in that 16 hour shift. No employee break room or refrigerator you have to eat in your vehicle. Once you return from lunch you will be stuck on unit for 6-8 hours before your next break which is 10 min.. No restroom breaks. I often had to use inmates restrooms because I couldn't get someone to come relieve me.The whole shift you will get yelled at by Dispatch ordering what to do and we're to go in your unit. Yelled at so back to where the inmates would laugh at you.The ladies that work in Dispatch are extremely unprofessional and one in particular seems high on something. Employee smile in each other face and talk about you as soon as you leave the room. Absolutely no support from management or room for advancement. The program & Unit Counselors are just going through the motions to get a pay check. Their no counseling, read etc. Hoffman & Coleman is a sweat shop "jail", you work so many hours after a while you feel like a inmate. This place should be out of business.

    Advice to Management

Start by getting a break room for employees.. Or just shut it down and start over just to many to list.

If your working for there delaware county prison there is plenty of over-time.

    Cons

Management is very bad...The correctional officers are not mature and they have a high turn-over ratio....

    Advice to Management

    Get rid of everyone.

I worked at Community Education Centers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Free lunch, but a $30,000 year salary with crappy benefits. Who can live on $12.00 an hour?

    Cons

This company is a scam. Undereducated and inexperienced "counselors" (aged 21-26) give lectures to inmates about life! It's laughable. Several of the counselors work as bartenders, waitresses, or nannies at night. The programs all blend together becasue no one checks on the work. So many CEC people sleep at their desks all day, and the one clinical supervisor has no license, no experience, and no leadership skills. I can't belive the State or the DOC hires this company to fake-support and pretend-teach these inmates. The outcomes data is faked, and the computer rosters are fudged. THe TC's don't have group programs; they just lock in the inmates all day.

    Advice to Management

You better check the credentials of these contract employees becasue many of them have records, DUI's, and very low grade averages, if they even have a degree.

I worked at Community Education Centers (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It is very rewarding to work with members of the community. The monetary compensation and schedule are great and management was a pleasure to work for.

    Cons

Not enough hours... I would have loved to have worked more, but hours kept getting cut.

    Advice to Management

Provide more team building outings so co-workers have the opportunity to build rapport with one another outside of the office.
