I have been working at Community Health Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Well established. Many successful healthcare professional, good opportunity for growth.

    Cons

Communication can lack across departments. Separate operations are siloed, no collaboration. Because of poor communication, duplicated efforts.

    Advice to Management

Help facilitate communication as much as possible. Work to be empathetic of lower level employees and their day to day responsibilities.

    Pros

Located in Cool Springs - easy to run errands on your lunch break

    Cons

Bad Work Environment and Low Pay. They are very demanding and there are no bonuses unless you are a manager or above. It is hard to move up and if you do they only give a 5% raise.

    Advice to Management

Have team building events, support your employees and act like you care.

I worked at Community Health Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are none. This company is terrible!! DO NOT work here unless you are destitute and homeless! CHS lacks any vision and is totally unprepared for value based health care!! STAY AWAY!!

    Cons

Technological constraints are massive! Communication is terrible! Management is atrocious! CHS thrives on operating inefficiently. They are being eaten alive by operating costs and have no idea what to do to contain the situation. A complete failure by management to plan for any automation in order to cut costs! This company is TERRIBLE!!!

    Advice to Management

    Retire!!

"This org. seeks to continuously enrich the top at the expense of everyone else. Ethically & morally questionable."

I have been working at Community Health Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You will receive a paycheck at below market salary, half of which will go to the dress code requirements.

    Cons

The CEO has been voted 'Nashville's Most Overpaid' several years and shareholders voted down executive salary by a 2:1 margin due poor performance and executive pay which were not aligned for the interest of shareholders.
Employees are consistently told there is no money in the budget for a raise yet the top brass continues to rake it in hand over fist.
Do not expect to be valued, if you are 'promoted' it will be in title only and you will receive a max of 7% raise even if the new position is one which pays 100% more.
The company paid a $100 million dollar fine to the U.S DOJ for fraudulent over-billing practices without admitting fault even though the lawsuit is pretty clear on what went down.
The dress code is ridiculous and many employees shop at good will or otherwise they could not afford it.
The department infighting is scary and it seems everyone, including bloated middle management, are deathly afraid so they just blame everything on anyone else.
    No career advancement potential.
Nepotism is rampant and the top brass often employees their kin at the org's hospitals as admin. specialists out of grad school so they can slip into a hospital CEO position making six figures. In fact, the internship program exists only for exec's to hire their kin.

Also the Company avoids paying taxes on equipment to the 'affiliated' hospitals by purchasing it buy a Cayman island company (Community Insurance Group - CIG) and then leasing it to the facilities. This way they get around state and federal taxes.

Patient care is not a priority at this company and our health benefits are some of the worse I've seen despite being a health care firm.

    Advice to Management

Leave, haven't you unjustly enriched yourself enough? Why do you pay yourself so much then claim there is no money in the budget for raises? Your salary is 10% of annual free cash flow.

"The place expects long hours for every position hired that is not on an hourly basis. It does not matter your work load"

    Pros

If you wish to work long hours, your compensation will be excellent, even above average. The benefits are decent and the 401k match is above average.

    Cons

Your personal and family life will be disregarded by your managers, who mostly disregard their families in favor of work and long hours.

    Advice to Management

Foster a more family friendly environment and this would be a great place to work.
