    Pros

    There are no pros in this corporation.

    Cons

    The worst of the worst. Stay away. A dangerous environment for nurses. It is profits over patients. The corporation is in financial crisis. They are selling 25 hospitals at, I assume, fire sale prices. Their mantra is, "Greed is good". Google the corporation; Medicare Fraud, Investor Fraud, SEC Fraud, attempted hostile takeover of Hahnamenn University. The list goes on. Patients and nurse...stay away!

    Advice to Management

    Crash and burn! All of your fraudulent practices are finally catching up to you. It's about time. All about the karma!

    I have been working at Community Health Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Benefits and pay are excellent for experienced coders. Education is provided and paid for.

    Cons

    Program used is very unstable and unreliable. Billion dollar corporate should be able to provide tools that work or switch to different tools. Program that is used is a monopoly and IS/program repersentives could care less. As long as goals are met nothing happens.

    Advice to Management

    Use your balls and have 3M make programs run.

    I have been working at Community Health Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Steady paycheck, if you are lucky enough to not get laid off.

    Cons

    No support. Management only cares about themselves. If not an MD, you don't count. Management lies to rank-and-file consistently. Multiple layoffs to make up for corporate upper management incompetence. This makes the rest of us work 2-3x as hard to cover, yet no raise in pay.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees. Stop being selfish and making stupid financial decisions. Appreciate your employees more, not just the MDs.

    Pros

    Great director in my dept. other directors not so great. This Hosp was near my home so that was a pro.

    Cons

    It's all about the money! Main concern seemed to be about $ with little regard to patient safety or staff.

    Advice to Management

    Be loyal to employees and they will be loyal to you!

    Cons

    Salary position requires more hours than 40/week - no compensation
    Case Loads greater than industry standard

    Allocate $$ to department that saves AND earns income!!

    Pros

    Good work-life balance, job security, and a stable environment.

    Cons

    Professional development or a lack thereof. Next to no training. Once you're hired into the department you will not be allowed to leave your position for a better one in the company unless you leave the company and come back. Top-down leadership. Misinformation or no information is provided routinely on the most simple tasks.

    Advice to Management

    Develop a professional development program that is beneficial to both the department and employee. Allow employees to change departments, so they can grow their careers. Train employees who really want to learn. Create more horizontal levels of leadership. Transparency.

    I worked at Community Health Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    The people are very nice and there is a decent work/life balance

    Cons

    no room for advancement, pay is under market value, yearly raises were only 1% this year because of how bad the company is doing... If someone in your department leaves, they don't hire someone new, they just distribute their work to someone else. Too much work and management doesn't seem to care about it.

    Advice to Management

    If you are loyal to your employees then they will be loyal back.

    Pros

    Great people and a solid pay with strong work life balance. They are looking for talent and building great teams to improve many departments. Patients are the center of the work

    Cons

    Very conservative traditional office culture. Siloed organization. Rough financial times for the company means raises and bonuses are scarce.

    Advice to Management

    ReOrganize!!! Way too many VPs in charge of business major functions that they are not experts in and are not qualified to lead. Get out to our facilities and really try to understand how we can do our work better. Establish a vision and publicly champion it. It must be more that EBIDTA results.

    Pros

    Pay is comparable; Benefits are OK. PTO System is screwy unless your union.

    Cons

    Cant speak for the Corporate offices, but from a Hospital perspective, the biggest problem with being a CHS employee is CHS. The local facilities try to succeed in spite of CHS Corporate. CHS ties the hands of local administrators and then lends little to no support. Any success your facility has in in spite of CHS

    Advice to Management

    Bought up a bunch of Hospitals and didn't adjust their infrastructure. They had no business model in place so when they bought the struggling hospitals they continued to struggle and now they are bringing the entire company down. I would venture to say any successful facility under the CHS umbrella ius successful in spite of CHS and would be better off on their own.
