    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Community Psychiatric Clinic full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

CPC is now truly an enjoyable place to work. It is wonderful to have a dedicated and hands-on CEO who, along with the Leadership Team, has really turned CPC around and created a warm, supportive and collaborative work environment. In addition, the pay increased, the benefits improved, there are opportunities to advance, and staff smile more. CPC is better. What a difference leadership makes.

    Cons

Culture changes take some time but things are hugely improved from the polarizing environment it previously was.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Community Psychiatric Clinic full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

In residential services left alone to do your work to a large degree. Line staff and lower/middle management devoted, inspiring, and hard working. Great place to learn much about mental illness, substance abuse, housing for the poor and poverty stricken, medications both psych. and medical, other service providers and much more if you want your experience to count.

    Cons

Upper management micromanages to an absolutely awful degree. It is to the point they interfere with progressive treatment and recovery. Pay is not up to par with other community mental health agencies in the greater Seattle area. No respect from management.

    Advice to Management

Listen and put to good use suggestions/recommendations from the staff doing the work directly with the clients for they have their finger on the pulse and know what is going on and what is needed.

    Pros

Benefits time off and co workers

    Cons

Poor management. Narcissistic managers. Ego driven.

    Advice to Management

As of September 1st CPC will be no longer Sound will take over. My advice to sound. Listen to those who are in the residential settings.

I have been working at Community Psychiatric Clinic full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Majority of positions are unionized, which means: mostly-covered healthcare including dental, several paid holidays, small amount of allotted training/education funds, representation in grievance procedures. Dependent on credential, most positions provide supervision for licensure. Excellent staff comprised of kind and hard-working service professionals committed to client care. The clients themselves are also a... joy to work with, for the most part.

    Cons

Management actively works against you and sets you up for failure: - If there is any supervision at all, it is from ignorant and ill-informed supervisors who provide little to no oversight - Unreasonable caseloads - High documentation standards yet no support/time to complete it - Unclear expectations: no transparency from upper management, poor communication between upper management -> supervisors ->... staff - Upper management refuses to collaborate amicably with union, preventing safe work environments & fairly-paid positions - Employees on the bargaining team, advocating for their coworkers' rights during collective bargaining agreement negotiations, are forced to use their vacation time to participate in said negotiation sessions - Ridiculously high/quick turnover: everyone leaves as soon as they get licensed, if they even make it that far, and then - Management does not replace departing staff, shifting their workload onto already overworked remaining staff - Housing & residential programs are unsafe, understaffed, and mismanaged. Staff assaulted by clients are not supported and action is not taken to ensure their safety - When issues of safety or circumstances prohibiting effective care are brought to management's attention, no action is taken without incessant persistence from multiple employees, and even then action is frequently not taken - Horrible financial decisions that burn out people actually doing the work, yet are not fiscally responsible for the company either (a program was acting with entirely expired insurance tiers due to zero oversight in past years, but forced responsibility on replacement clinician to increase billing) - Grossly unjust treatment of staff: disproportionate disciplining of some employees while excusing others' misconduct

    Advice to Management

The best way to create stable growth for your company is to invest in the people who are actually growing it: your employees. Disadvantaging them actively damages clients, and will surely bankrupt you in no time.

I have been working at Community Psychiatric Clinic full-time

    Pros

The position will provide you with direct experiences with a specific mental health population of clients.

    Cons

Poor management, VERY poor allocation of funds to improve services and facilities for clients. Company depends completely on local government money, Client Income, and donations. Does not actively seek out grants that entail requirements.

    Advice to Management

Learn from the people that work directly with the clients as to how money should be best allocated when providing services for clients. ACTUALLY work with the community and assist facilities with their efforts to be involved in the community. Don't close down programs/services while continuing major renovations to the administrative office for the purpose of saving money. Think about the clients.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Community Psychiatric Clinic part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - plenty of opportunity for direct client hours for clinical licensure - generally competent and caring direct service staff - union representation

    Cons

    - only two supervisors across the entire agency qualified to provide supervision for licensure, and one of them is leaving - unmanageable caseloads (50-80, depending on program) - extremely poor communication from management to staff, very little transparency or consistency, frequent confusion and miscommunication - upper management is petrified of "setting precedents" and therefore extremely difficult to resolve... workplace issues - very few opportunities for professional growth/career advancement

I have been working at Community Psychiatric Clinic for more than a year

    Pros

Working with some really great clients which can be gratifying and life changing.

    Cons

High turnover, constant budget cuts, sometimes dangerous clients, not a lot of love for employees.

    Advice to Management

Show true appreciation to your staff on the front lines. It is absolutely draining being face to face with severely mentally ill individuals all day. More retention of quality employees means more quality care for the clients - that's who really matters. Also, stop cutting essential resources for clients and putting more work on already strained employees.

    Community Psychiatric Clinic Response

    October 23, 2017Human Resources Manager

I agree that the work we do at CPC is life changing. Every day I am astounded by the talent, passion and commitment our staff have for the work and the individuals we serve. Since having made positive changes to the organizational culture, we have seen reduced turnover and improved care for clients. I also agree there are many more ways to express to staff how much they are truly valued at CPC and we will look for improved ways to recognize staff for the amazing work they do. We appreciate your candid feedback and are committed to making CPC the best non-profit to work for in Seattle. Bruce Smith, CAO.

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Community Psychiatric Clinic

    Pros

Good benefits through the union, variety of work sites and environments, and ability to serve underrepresented populations.

    Cons

Poor role delineation, outdated protocols that put staff and clients at risk, toxic culture, and poor medical oversight.

    Advice to Management

Increase nursing staff, update protocols, and identify toxic embedded employees to lessen impacts of harmful individuals in the existing workforce in order to pave way for innovation, improved ethics, and increased organizational transparency.
