I have been working at Community School of Music and Arts full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

The music school has a qualified management staff with real music backgrounds. There is autonomy in teaching.

    Cons

Pay is relatively low and there are absolutely no perks or a sense of community amongst the faculty Executive director seems out of touch with salary/compensation of highly qualified music teachers - salary is NOT commensurate with the growth of CSMA or the regional demographics

    Advice to Management

Consider full time faculty positions - adds to the integrity of the music and arts education.

I have been working at Community School of Music and Arts part-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

Love the facility and materials available for art classes. The admin staff is very supportive and encouraging, providing resources to facilitate teaching and expand your skills.

      Cons

Sometimes hard to get a new class going because you have to get yourself 'known' there in order to increase enrollments.

I worked at Community School of Music and Arts

        Pros

Good location but not enough parking spots for staff, teachers and students at peak time.

        Cons

Mission drift. Not focused on delivering services to needy population. Micromanaging Executive Director. Highly toxic environment if staff member, better if you are a teacher but low pay.

        Advice to Management

Advice to board - find a new ED (note David Sacarelos is not current ED).

I worked at Community School of Music and Arts part-time for more than 2 years

        Pros

If you like art of all media and working with children, this is the place for you. Staff in general is very friendly and open. You could also work on your own art projects while helping the children with theirs.

        Cons

Very low pay of $8/hr which is below the California 2014 minimum wage. It is understandable as it is a nonprofit school, however, some shifts do deserve better pay as you have to manage more hyperactive children armed with various art supplies.

        Advice to Management

Please take notice of the camp aides who spend more time actively doing their jobs as opposed to the ones sitting around.
