I worked at Community Services Group, Inc. full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The support from fellow coworkers in difficult situations. My coworkers all became close from working together, like a work family.

    Cons

It was difficult to work with certain people and team members, and there was sometimes inconsistency between coworkers' actions and beliefs.

    Pros

The consumers are wonderful to work for, but you need dedication and empathy to be able to do so. The pay was not as much as some companies, but not as low as others.

    Cons

Administration does not train well and does not communicate effectively.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff and provide better training and help covering shifts.

I have been working at Community Services Group, Inc. part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Relaxed work environment in some home, plenty of overtime

    Cons

Some homes (Hans Herr Drive, Willow Street PA) is very difficult and the company has little compensation for the staff there. The hardest home in the Central PA area and gets paid the same as other homes with more relaxed conditions. Sleep over positions are poorly paid.

    Advice to Management

Pay the employees at homes that are Intermediate Care Facilities (ICF) with better wages, as these homes are very difficult. Most homes would be better than these.

I worked at Community Services Group, Inc. full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The only reason to want to work at CSG, is a willingness to help others, work with physically, mentally and emotionally challenged individuals. If that is the reason, the job is its own reward. The company will not reward you. No matter how well you do your job. They claim to require your best, and the best is never good enough.

    Cons

I worked on a group to streamline the time in hiring staff, management did not accept our recommendations. Should never take two months to hire someone. Pay is good, benefits fair. The time off, has been cut the last five years. Supervisors lost a whole week of PTO, management citing the reason, most supervisors do not take their entire allotment.

    Advice to Management

Develop staff, listen more to the direct care staff. Too many bosses are ill informed to be able to make decisions. Some senior management staff need be removed, as they do not understand what they are training others for. Stop forcing staff to do procedures to clients, that only nurses and doctors should do.

    Pros

-The companies overall object to help and care for people with IDD and mental illness really shows with how well they treat their clients and their employees.
-There are a lot of great incentives for employees.
    -PTO is good.
-Great schedule of working M-F, 8-4
-The clients are great to work with and you really learn so much about various mental illness and IDD's by working hands on with the individuals.

    Cons

    Pay is not that great.

I have been working at Community Services Group, Inc. full-time

    Pros

Good benefits for full time employees (health, dental, and vision insurance, PTO, 401k plans). Flexible hours for "floater" positions. Occasionally you'll have a good interaction with a resident and feel like you made a difference. Work is fairly easy as long as it's a "good" day. Small Christmas bonuses and the occasional reward for coming in during inclement weather.

    Cons

Most of the time, you'll have "bad" days...expect to be yelled at by residents on a daily basis, and physically attacked/threatened at least once a month. It can be stressful and you'll probably take some of that frustration home with you. A lot of corporate mumbo jumbo and red tape to prevent problems from being addressed in an honest way. Bad communication between shifts. I've had one yearly bonus in over 3 years and it's apparently rare. You're expected to be here no matter what and find your own coverage if you can't, so there's not much room for sick days or emergencies. Pay isn't great considering you're being verbally abused on a daily basis, expected to clean toilets, etc. Almost no career advancement opportunities.

    Advice to Management

My supervisors are more concerned about being friends with everyone than being tough on unacceptable behavior from employees (and residents). On a more upper management level, this program is like an island and no one outside of this residence really knows the first thing about us: our problems, our successes, etc. Would like to see more involvement from the higher ups.
