Work hard, play hard
Oct 24, 2022 - Senior Manager in Peterborough, EnglandRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I love the flexibility that I have at CtM, I manage my time and location to suit my customers and my lifestyle. If I need to pick the kids up, or have an appointment in work hours, or for whatever reason my 'usual' hours need a tweak I can do this without feeling guilty or needing to ask permission. I mix my time between the office and WFH to suit. I feel like I am working for an organisation that wants to progress and is investing in its future, reacting well to changes in the ever changing external market. We dont always get it right first time but fail fast is a reality here, not just a saying that gets thrown about. While working hard is a given, there is also a sense of feeling valued and rewarded with the additional perks and activities on offer. It was also a huge gesture when we were all awarded a £2k pa salary increase in July to help with the cost of living, the flat rate meant it went to those that would benefit the most rather than a % - really good work CtM!
Cons
A fast moving environment that has to react to market conditions isnt always easy or right for everyone, if you come to CtM expect pace and challenge...(not a downside for me, but can be for some).
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, we really appreciate your feedback and are delighted to hear how our flexible, 'locate for your day' approach is really working for you and your family. It is also fantastic to hear that although we expect all of our colleagues to work hard to deliver our purpose for our customers, you're feeling valued and rewarded in return which really means a lot to us. Thank you for your contribution.

Toxic culture
Jun 2, 2023 - Senior Software Engineer in Peterborough, EnglandRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- A big brand with a lot of money behind it, that's it. - If you are old way person, looking for a company and waiting to retire, here will be your dream company
Cons
- An old fashion, toxic and totalitarian culture is in high-level management - Not respect to employees and never hearing our voice, policies changed because of C-Levels want. All policies come without consulting anyone even managers, we just get notified and keep asking "WHAT? WHY?" First is the pension, then moving office (Now it is postponed, not because the company chose to hear its employee but just because of the contract problem), and now because the office is expensive, they are forcing people to go back to the office to make the office has value. Such a stupid way and you risk losing your employees. - If we doing things great now, what's the point of bringing inconvenience to your people? - The overall answer vibe from CEO is 'this is what we're doing now; we're contractually allowed to do it; if you don't like it then tough, you can quit' is horrible. - The company cares about its own image rather than the employees, and that's why so huge amount of people consider leaving (or already resigning).

After lockdown, we decided not to return to be fully office-based, but offer a hybrid model. Our latest announcement isn’t anything new, but with the pandemic now (hopefully) behind us, it’s just a reiteration of the arrangements we’d put in place. It’s true, we're being firmer about the arrangement now, but we like to think a minimum of ten days per month in an office works well. Of course, we do appreciate that some people enjoyed the full remoteness brought about by lockdown and this is the way they want to work permanently. We think that by being clear about our approach to flexible working, it makes it easier for people to decide whether we’re the right business for them.

Really great company with great people, who keep raising the bar on what is achievable
May 17, 2023 - Quality Assurance in Peterborough, EnglandRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
There are a lot of really great people at comparethemarket, it is friendly and fun, but people really take doing a great job seriously. This passion and commitment has resulted in many really excellent technology advances allowing for fast and low risk deliveries.
Cons
Progression options were not very clear when I was with the company, but that does not mean progression was impossible, in fact there was a great deal of opportunity, the only challenge was finding it or identifying it for yourself.

The colleagues are the asset
May 2, 2023 - Anonymous Employee in London, EnglandRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
* People culture: they invest in their employees - a lot of social activities happening, training etc * Decent salaries, equipment, benefits * A lot of focus on strategy & direction, so clear vision and mission
Cons
* Promotion process is complicated and tricky to navigate, which makes it hard to retain talent * A lot of hierarchy and red tape to navigate, which slows down decision making and initiative * Not super flexible with hybrid working (if you can't make it in person, then you miss out) * A lot of focus on strategy & direction also leads to a lot of change, which not everybody deals with well and took up a lot of energy on top of day to day job * They don't always recognise people for their actual contribution/workload, but often stick to rigid comparisons between teams/roles that don't always make sense. I've seen this to be a big demotivator for a lot of colleagues.

Fired for calling a woman a woman.
Jun 4, 2023 - Senior DeveloperRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
They pay reasonably well for the job you do.
Cons
Fired for calling a woman a woman. I honestly thought this nonsense was limited to the craziness of the USA but it seems it has infiltrated British culture in the most insidious manner. I recorded the disciplinary so I have video evidence for those who doubt. Apparently referring to a woman as a woman breaches the "Physical violence and abuse" policy. The weird thing was that the woman I was referring to wasn't even the woman who got offended. This other woman looked exactly as you imagine her. You could clearly tell she hated straight white men. The new 'bad guy' of modern times. In that moment I wasn't a family man with a mortgage to pay for. I was every white boy and man that had ever said a mean thing to her from her childhood right through to now. She clearly has personal demons and is on a mission to see and purge those demons from every walk of life. you can just tell she went to her friend "I got rid of another cis white man today" This is the danger when hiring unstable individuals. They will slowly destroy the business from the inside. The funny thing is, before this incident I was a 'moderate' leaning neither left nor right on the lgbt issues. I was of the mind that every one deserves to live the way they choose. I was an ally and would correct friends in the past if they showed misguided views. It's just a shame women like this don't share my moderate view. More and more allies are being vilified because of unchecked trauma in their personal lives. When you make allies into enemies when you're already a minority probably isn't the brightest thing to do. Which is why we're seeing more and more the backlash of people becoming tired of being branded an awful person when they have done nothing wrong. Lack of understanding for another's position and an unwillingness to meet someone half way will only end badly. People don't like authouritarianism and they like having ideas shoved down their throat even less. Instead of an ally this whole business has just created a new opponent.

We can categorically state that no employee has ever been dismissed for calling a woman a woman, so we confirm this review to be inaccurate.
