    Pros

If you like food service and the food industry, you get a lot of business skills from working with managers on hiring/training/inventory/financials

    Cons

They think they know what is best for you and will hold you back on positions that you're well suited for. I was swayed multiple times towards positions I was not interested in, and turned down when I applied for promotions that I was qualified for and wanted to do, only to see other people get hired from outside who ended up being less competent and only lasted a few months.

    Advice to Management

If Seattle area Bon Appetit bosses complain about the lack of local management candidates, start opening opportunities up to the people who already work for you and want help guiding their careers. Your method of "training" is to promote someone, walk away, and come back later scolding them for not doing something they didn't know was their responsibility in the first place. I witnessed this happen so many times at multiple accounts, and watched many friends and colleagues burn out and leave for better companies who do recognized their talent and have genuinely coached and allowed them to excel. You'll cycle through some great people who would become long term assets and lead the next generation of accounts if you fail to embrace training and patience and trust that smart people will learn from mistakes without condemning them.

I worked at Compass Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun and down to earth co workers and if you don't like being glued to your desk like myself then it's a major plus as there's about 2 hrs office time unless you start getting promoted.

    Cons

As DDS I would have done absolutely anything for my District Managers and they me. When promoted to RDM completely different dynamic with my supervisor that's all I'll say. I'll never bash my immediate supervisor in this kind of forum due to me being a supervisor myself you never know what's could be going on in their world and vice-versa. If you do not raise your hand to say that you're drowning how do they know, and you will fail as bosses aren't mind readers. All I can say there is very little consistency from account to account and from my viewpoint there wasn't much effort in that being rectified as everyone knew.

    Advice to Management

No because it's easy to just type and criticize. Just as in all employers throughout ppl's careers, some things were done great and others I didn't care for...that's work. Now I did not like my last supervisor, but it's my job I don't need to and where's the section asking what practices management should keep doing so they know what's working? Some advice for Glassdoor 😉

I worked at Compass Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Fantastic cafeteria and food
    Decent health care
Overall decent people to work with
Opportunities to transfer after 18 months

    Cons

    * Antiquated manual accounting processes that slow down employee productivity.

    * Instead of creating solutions to increase productivity, managers will fall back on micromanaging overworked employees.

*High turnover, as work load is higher than what most companies will assign.

*Working less than 50 hours is frowned upon

*No recognition or benefit of going above and beyond for the department. Poor performers are rewarded as much as top employees.

    *Little opportunity for growth.

*Employee recommendations are heard but ignored.

    Advice to Management

    Work employees smarter not harder.

Invest into processes that will increase productivity, as manual processes are strangling effectiveness.

Don't expect employees to stay more than 1-2 years if you expect people to work every single weekend. We have lives.
