I worked at Compass Group USA (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Mostly positive atmosphere with an emphasis on being part of a team. One of the largest employer's in the world means there is rarely a dull moment.

    Cons

Corporate policies and mentalities don't always cascade down to management the way that you'd expect. Work efforts may be applauded without being truly appreciated or compensated.

    Advice to Management

The corporate mindset of constantly driving efficiency is key. Don't lose sight of it or you may lose the very employees that would produce the solutions needed to remain competitive.

    Pros

Very fast pace! Great co workers. "Cast of thousands,,,"

    Cons

But the "cast of thousands..." don't know what each other are doing most of the time and step on each other quit often, duplicating efforts and spinning their wheels.
Senior leadership has lost sight of the daily activities required to satisfy the clients/contract agreements and provide no check and balance to insure business in running properly. very little financial training for unit managers and problems are allowed to be "brushed under the carpet" by middle management.

    Advice to Management

They talk a great game- but when it comes to actually delivering, its a totally different and they fall short.

    Cons

Organization is too lean for associates to be truly successful. Leadership does not hold itself accountable for their decision.

    Advice to Management

Value your associates and provide adequate support and resources for your associates to be successful.

I have been working at Compass Group USA full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Relationship based culture will appeal to people who understand and can navigate office politics. Lots of growth and countless new initiatives mean opportunities for advancing. Many long tenured associates, some with 20+ years.

    Cons

Corporate office in Charlotte has many clicks, and new employees may feel like they've entered high school halfway through a school year. In some teams, hiring decisions are based on candidate friendliness rather than credentials. On boarding processes are team based and vary widely. Some have extensive on boarding processes while others hand new hires an org chart and instructions to introduce yourself. New mid-senior people should ask about what to expect and manage accordingly.

    Advice to Management

Take time and steps to confirm managers hire the strongest candidates. Identify gaps in team skills and choose candidates who can fill those gaps. Assess whether tenured associates have the skills jobs require today for the company to grow and operate successfully.

    Cons

The sheer size of company can make it difficult to feel like you have any voice or impact

    Advice to Management

Continue working toward ensuring associates have voice and feel valued
