    Advice to Management

I worked at Comtech Xicom Technology (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Easy place to get comfortable. I found the people at Xicom to be nice to work with. It's a relitively easy going, low pressure social environment. There are monthly BBQ's and an okay 401K plan.

    Cons

Low pay and no chance of promotion unless you're friends with management. Furloughs every year. I made 40% more almost instantly after being laid off, and was promoted at my new job within 3 months. I do not feel that Xicom has the technical knowledge that it's competitors do. Management does not understand the product to the depths that they should. This company largely survives by making due with things. The product is of low quality with an increadibly high return rate. Health coverage is bad. Bonuses never exceed triple digits.

    Advice to Management

The bulk of management needs to be replaced by more technically savvy and stratigically minded individuals. The company needs to compensate employees fairly, and should strive to build higher quality products.

    Pros

Not many at all after 13 years other than employment in Silicon Valley when jobs are scarce.

    Cons

Very low pay. Was able to get a contract position within 4 weeks paying 25% MORE than what I was making when I was let go (after 13 years)
No respect for employees with any tenure, experience or product knowledge
After 13 years of employment, a "group" of us were walked out in March, 2016. The direct managers didn't know. I received 2 weeks of severance for 13 years of service.
Benefits are very bad and expensive. They are based on what's available at the corporate offices on the east coast, not what's here in California (words direct from HR).
There is minimal communication. The quarterly BBQ's are always 'business is good and steady'. Upper management has no regard for how the product is developed and built. They then take incorrect information from those close to them which is inaccurate. Very frustrating trying to communicate upwards so accurate detail, problems, proposed solutions are heard.... the just do it because I said so...... attitude is prevalent.

    Advice to Management

Wake up! Treat employees fairly. Admit the mistakes. Get rid of those who really don't know the product and industry.
MAKE IT RIGHT to those you have let go over the past several months.

I worked at Comtech Xicom Technology as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Friendly management
    Collaborative environment
    Good environment for new engineers
Regular employee morale boosters: company bbqs, coffee and doughbuts, etc
    Very knowledgeable senior engineers

    Cons

This is from a trainees perspective; but the company does not know how to utilize new manpower well; new hires with little experience are usually assigned some unimportant documentation work, or are given projects either way above or below their capabilities; a bit more attention from engineering managers would improve the experience tremendously. After all, you are paying these new guys.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to what each employee is doing, even if they are very green.

I have been working at Comtech Xicom Technology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A friendly place, comfortable, easy schedule old culture good projects, can enjoy the work if you don't care about compensation and benefits, always loaded with work

    Cons

It is your choice, if you want to be loaded, people can get their way without doing much. Very poor managers and talent is not honored. A pessimistic outlook.

    Advice to Management

Management needs reform. Need to change their outlook that if being cheap is working for them let it be although compromise the quality of products and let employees struggle as long as they are able to deliver with outdated tools.

    Pros

    Friendly environment
Depend on your supervisor, you will receive good support & respect

    Cons

Doesn't take employee loyalty into consideration. They've been laid off people who have been with the company for 14, 15, 19 years just with 1 Month paid check, nothing else.
Now everyone is working & worry when will be their turn. Honestly, work here to get experience then you better look for somewhere else.

    Advice to Management

You should reward your employees for their loyalty, not laid them off and create a nervous atmosphere in the work place.
