Pros
The company as a whole is a great company to work for. They have good benefits wether you’re full time or part time. The union for the most part looks out for union members. The pay is decent and there is room for growth within the company.
Cons
Management needs more training on company values and policy. A lot of people working in management are lost or misinformed.

Good internship to get you started.

Gives real world job process and schedule. Good pay and something to put on your resume. Teaches you how real life engineers work and go about their day.
Cons
Mostly busy work and does not give you much applicable knowledge after internship was completed.

Great company
Aug 1, 2018 - Operating Supervisor in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Con Edison is a great place to work for those with or without higher education. There are very few places that pay as much as Con Edison does for those without a college degree. Not only are you compensated well, you learn a trade that you can take with you anywhere. Plus, if you don't have a college degree but would like to get one, Con Edison can pay for your education through tuition reimbursement. If you already have a college degree, there are plenty of opportunities to move up and around. It's also a very female friendly company. I had a baby recently and my boss and coworkers were very supportive throughout my pregnancy and during my transition back from maternity leave. I was able to take 5 months off after the birth of my child. 10 weeks paid for a vaginal birth and the rest was unpaid leave. (12 weeks if it's a C-section.) Con Edison has lactation rooms stocked with pumping and nursing amenities. It's a really great place for working mothers.
Cons
The biggest con is that there can sometimes be an 'us' versus 'them' mentality between union and management depending on where you work in Con Edison.

good paycheck but no career growth if you don't plan to stay 10+ years
Nov 22, 2011 - in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
-It ain't going anywhere. As long as people need electricity/gas, Con Edison will not go bankrupt. -Nobody gets fired unless you lie or steal company property (for management employees) -Pay is pretty good compared to what's out there (except for the IT department)
Cons
-it ain't going anywhere. Here and there the company would want to pick up new markets but there won't be any group-breaking changes or development. -this is over a century old utility company. Culture is very old-fashioned and military like. Supervisors/managers tend to stick their noses behind your back to make sure you are working. they get on your nerve every so often. -no career growth unless you plan to stay in the company 10+ years. there are good bunch of employees that have spent most of their lives in the company and are not ready for changes. unfortunately most of the senior management are of this group. they will tell you (directly or indirectly) that you are wrong and they are right because they have been doing their jobs before you were born. it's not just about swallowing pride; it's about you don't have a say when it comes to decision making. you feel powerless.
