    Pros

Coworkers are very helpful. We looked out for each other and helped each other make it through the day.

    Cons

Veterans take advantage of new female workers. You get sexually harassed and little sligh comments are made and when you bring it to the appropriate party they sweep it under the rug. Especially if the person you are reporting is about to retire. They will never mess up their time for a new employee with only 4 years in

I have been working at Con Edison of New York full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Steady pay, low risk of termination

    Cons

Union! Usual union guy with ovet time will make 20 to 30 % more than their manager two bands higher . Don't take me wrong im all abut high pay for rhe union but level of professionalism , educatuon and maners of these people is worst than homeless . As a manager you have no controll over union , to the point they will laugh at you if you ask them to do something while they binge watch their shows on YouTube during work hours - for months at a time .

One of the subs sold me a coned joke that took me few minutes to understand and then laugh a sad laugh:

Q:What is blue and white and sleeps 6?
    A: coned union truck .
Btw it is very true , that if you knock on coned truck you will most likely wake up somebody.

On other hand as a manager you have to cofess from every hour , to the point single deadline miss will show up as a fail on your review.

    Advice to Management

Get out of 70s work ethic mentality , its been 50 years of evolution and you have stagnated, your approach is wrong, do company a favor and retire after 30 years not after 50 of service on average .

You have to change union habits ahd hold them accountable for their performance . It is discuraging to be a manager when your first line site guy highschool drop off makes more than general manager. All this makes a culture of laziness, acusation , retaliation etc i can go for days with these . Your deparment is the least diverse and it promotes racism and Trump like values .Additionally, please take controll of your goodall boys , your comany is rotten from within -just got another corporate communication on $4m employee fraud .

As just voted on departnent meeting 50% of total central construction management don't feel valuable or would recommend ther jobs to a friend .

This can be an amazing company , but you will drive it to rubble , makes me sad .

    Pros

If you are part of 'Golden Chosen' few, you can have a great future.

    Cons

Management benefits have been decimated. Lack of respect for experienced, senior employees. Retiree medical plan is horrific and non-compliant with the ACA.

    Advice to Management

Impprove pension plan for management. Improve relations with knowledgeable senior employees. Eliminate favoritism in the MJOL process

    Pros

Benefits are decent and the company has financial resources.

    Cons

Nepotism is prevalent. This results in unfair hiring and promotions. Within the culture you have to suck up or you won't move up in your career.

    Advice to Management

Start treating employees with respect and fairly. Judge performance by actual merit and not who you are related to or suck up to.

I worked at Con Edison of New York part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some Benefits, medical, 401k, stocks program, paid job training

    Cons

Too much micromanaging, too much monitoring of times (even bathroom breaks time is logged), lack communication with procedures, start part time and sloooooooowly progress to full time, no other depts there at night so can barely resolve issues, management gets lazy at times to assist taking deescalation calls, movement to other positions doesnt matter as much if you are qualified it depends on seniority and most spend on avg 6 yrs as rep before doing a LATERAL position to another dept. , feels like assisting a customer is not a priority with all the reports about reps

    Advice to Management

Communicate better with reps and supervisors about procedures and assist each other if something looks off in reports or accounts. Notice who is good at certain traits and have them use them to better teams and companies. Dont get over your head with micromanaging

    Pros

The people you support are patient and understanding. Great environment to work in. Basically, it pays the bills.

    Cons

Management focuses too much on procedure and not on common sense which makes certain day to day tasks more difficult than they should be. Advancement and hiring process is based on favoritism and cronyism no matter how much they try make the interview process seem fair and impartial. They will hire one of their golf buddies over someone who actually is experienced and qualified to do the job.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your experienced workers or veterans when making changes to a process or procedure. There is nothing like hands on experience, which the fresh out of college kids you praise too much, do not have.

    Pros

Depending where you are located your co-workers become family and the morale is usually high.

    Cons

If you are in management you are paying more than union employees by approximately 60 percent. Career advancement is very hard in some groups. Outside experience doesn't count for much.
