Reviews about "upper management"
Return to all Reviews- Former Contractor, more than 10 years★★★★★
Pros
A handful of executives, managers and lower-level employees have the right attitude to get an achieved result within the company and with outside vendors. If you are lucky enough to work with one of them, you will give them more than 100 percent, and enjoy working for them. Invoice payments are quick and fair. Recent, open office work environment. Great CEO. He grew up in this company and loves it.
Cons
Many upper managers are counterintuitive and are easily offended when corrected about a bad decision. Bad moral among lower-level employees, so response and progress on projects are very slow. The good ideas from skilled employees and contractors are usually shot down and replaced by upper management decisions without reason.

Con Edison Clean Energy Businesses
Sep 9, 2022 - Renewable Energy AnalystRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Small teams and exposure to upper management due to the structure of the clean energy businesses. The company is at the forefront of solar power production across the US.
Cons
Salary and benefits were less competitive compared to the overall market. Exposure to work of the other teams was not an option and very few options for a lateral move.

Engineering Aide Summer Internship
Oct 2, 2018 - Engineering Aide in Brooklyn, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
This internship is definitely a good way to get your foot in the door if you're interested at working at ConEd or any related company. If you do a good job, they'll ask you to return part-time, then full time once you graduate college. I went on some pretty interesting trips to different sites across the city. Also, most of the younger staff are pretty cool. The people who have been working there for years and years will pay you no mind, however.
Cons
The work they give you isn't very interesting depending on who your supervisor is (aka, you're given 'busy work': excel spreadsheets and the like). A lot of the upper management doesn't really care for interns so you may or may not get ignored.

Reliable, solid company for benefits and salary; high-pressure "traditional" management style
Oct 7, 2013 - Section Manager in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Excellent employees, dedicated and energetic and highly competent technically
Cons
Old-fashioned hierarchal management mentality; very little room for disagreement or alternative management styles. Attitude of upper management tends to be 'you are very lucky to work here' rather than 'how do I retain and fulfill employees?' Currently undergoing major shifts in demographics due to the end of traditional pensions for management in 2000; very modern and mobile young employees clash with 40-year veterans whose main focus is maximizing pension benefits.

Great Benefits, very bureaucratic
Jan 22, 2014 - Associate Scientist in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The overall benefit package is above average. Hours can be regular depending on what business organization you work for.
Cons
Preferential treatment is rampant. Once you have been blessed by one of the upper management people advancement is less on your technical knowledge and more of who you know.

Bad Environment / Violence / Deception of the Work
Feb 21, 2020 - Corporate Trainer in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
None that is good for this place
Cons
On-boarding division has a bigotry, prejudice and discriminating environment against white males and people of different religions. Several statements about Jewish people in Brooklyn and other religious people were the main topic point during most business days. The upper management condoned the behavior and turned a 'blind eye'. Upper management indicates that's just 'construction workers' it's normal. On top of that another employee shot a spouse who worked there. I found the place to be very unprofessional and not with correct norms with corporate America. Position to which I was hired for was deceptive and wasn't real, the hiring manager announced his retirement within the first 3 weeks of my tenure and then didn't support the initiative to which he hired for... Instead he back out and lied about everything to which my position was there for. What a 'Bad Place' to work ! I wouldn't recommend this place at all, and if you do stay away from the 10th floor.... Most of all those people are prejudice sectarian people with bad intentions for white people.

A very stable dinosaur
Aug 27, 2014 - Anonymous Employee in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Stability is number one here. It's a steady job that, at least in my department, allows for a personal life. I have plenty of time off. They compensate well and there are some great benefits (matching 401(k), company stock purchase program, pension (it's not the same but it's still a pension). I work with some great people. There's nothing cut-throat about it.
Cons
Beaucracy. There are endless policies and procedures. Depending on who you work for, there is sometimes a lack of trust in employees. The idea that I'm not working unless I'm stuck in my chair for 9-10 hours a day is archaic. Change is almost impossible because the culture is very old-fashioned with an almost military attitude in it's operations. The motto should be changed from 'ON IT' to 'IT IS WHAT IT IS'. People sometimes seem to go along to get along. Management tends to do whatever upper management wants because they are afraid to stand up to them...perhaps because some of them are exhibit sociopathic behaviors. Promotions are heavy with cronyism/nepotism. Compensation is not always balanced (underperformers getting the same or better compensation). The Company doesn't utilize it's talent. The candidates are pre-selected in many instances but the HR policies let management get away with it. For every career development position, they step on someone else's career. Promoting people who are not qualified are resented by the people who are qualified.
