    "Not a standard"

    Former Employee - Physician
    Former Employee - Physician

    I worked at Concentra full-time

    Pros

Decent Salary. No micromanagement ( no one pays attention to what you do until a client complains )

    Cons

Complete lack of accountability for staff. Staff had time to surf the internet or do personal tasks, while watching the MD do their jobs. There is no incentive for staff to improve performance as there is no bonus structure to their salaried work. They are made to take lunch hours or leave early so as not to affevct the sites overtime . The office manager ensures this happens as I believe this affects their pay. This may mean leaving a physcian alone without help . I know of not one health organization that would allow a physcian to do MA work and think they are fullfilling the terms of the physician's contract .
No accountability or standard of the care for the physicians. You could not complete your charts , not document patient visits ( including reasoning for Schedule II and III drug ) without intervention . Additionally management does not ask for physician input regarding medical issues or care issues. The only information comes from the office manager , who has little to nothing to do with patient care ( and is not medically trained ) Disparate treatment by the office manager .
No recognition for quality healthcare provided to clients .

    Advice to Management

Start actually speaking to an interacting with physician AND the clients and corporations you serve
Quality and baseline work expectations for the MA staff and front desk staff
Create some type of bonus structure to someone other than the office manager
ASK, LISTEN , EXPECT AND REQUIRE QUALITY . COMPENSATE FOR EXCEPTIONAL WORK HABITS

I have been working at Concentra full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

As an Account Executive you have a very flexible schedule and the training program for new hires is very helpful.

    Cons

The is really no room for growth. When it comes to our employer services we are way too expensive compared to our competitors. There is so much turnover at the centers so things are constantly changing and it's hard to get into a rhythm with some of the centers. If you really want to make money you have to rely on people getting hurt on the job. However companies are starting to be more safe and cautious to reduce their work related injuries. This is not a career job. Don't take this job if you want to advance your career. If you are young then maybe take this job for a year or two to build your resume but that's about it.

    Advice to Management

Lower your prices. Also find a better way to pay us. If our territory is saturated then we should be on a different payment plan, especially if there aren't slot of big companies to go after. One rep could probably cover multiple territories, you hire to may reps for one area

I worked at Concentra (More than a year)

    Pros

Tremendous amount of opportunity to do well but too many roadblocks to capitalize on the opportunities. This could be a world-class company but has no idea how to either motivate or recognize employees who make a difference.

    Cons

Concentra makes its money from OCCUPATIONAL medicine.. Their patients are essentially forced to go to one of their centers by their employers for a physicals and injury care. They are not happy about that.

As an employee, no matter how well you do, there is little to no recognition for either hard or smart work. Concentra has a "play book" for the medical centers that must be followed at all times right down to the script for communicating with patients - no creativity allowed -no initiative allowed. Middle and upper management expect superior performance on metrics that are unrealistic and conflict with patient satisfaction expectations. They favor Concentra long-timers over new hires by sharing information selectively Hiring of medical assistants at most centers comes out of the ranks of the nearly illiterate. When assistants are fired, or quit, it takes the recruiting department months to find a candidate and most can't spell or do basic math, yet Concentra expects them to take vitals, create accurate records, and administer meds, injections, etc. While the position is vacant, all the other employees are expected to pick up the slack but not allowed to work any overtime hours. Patients often receive wrong injections.

In all of this chaos, the doctors rule supreme. There is no accountability for their mistreatment of employees or patients. They arrive when they feel like it, take long lunches and frequently leave patients in the waiting room at the end of the day. Their opinions are taken as truths without due diligence. Patients are brought back to windowless exam rooms and often made to wait until they stick their heads out the door and yell for somebody to pay attention to them. This is because qualified, successful, doctors avoid Concentra like the plague (this was told to me by a doctor at Concentra) because they don't want to work long hours, on patients who feel like they are being forced to be there by their employers, who treat them without respect and with medical assistants that are usually walking liabilities to their medical license.

They pay is low and the annual increases follow a country-wide very small increase (1-3%) no matter how well you reach the requirements of your "performance matrix."

    Advice to Management

Stop working in silos (PT, MED, OPS), spend more time rolling up your sleeves and being at the centers in front of patients. Find a way to listen and realize that markets, and the people in them, are different - i.e., the cookie cutter approach isn't going to work .

    Pros

    good money.colleagues are great! location

    Cons

upper management stinks. Make unattainable & unrealistic goals. They have been out of the field way to long and think their way is the right way - they do not listen to people that deal with the clients and the clients expectations on a daily basis. All they care for is the sell. a one & done attitude. no retention mindframe. Now wonder the company loses clients as fast as you get new one. no advancement ever! Promote only the suck ups with no experiece.

listen to your peons, accept the peoples ideas below you -- you are not gods although you think you are.

I worked at Concentra full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

No weekend work........ Nothing else...nothing else... Nothing else, nothing else, nothing, nothing, nothing, else, nothing else, nothing else to say to fill the word minimum.

    Cons

Narcissistic, insecure , liars of therapists , afraid someone will take their positions so they makeup stories so the new person looks bad. Selfish in training and will train with very limited information. Don't give a dam about patients at all and they have no empathy for patients. They think majority patients are lying about their pain. They don't want the Therapy department to grow because they are insecure about new people and losing their positions. Disgusting atmosphere and patients dislike them. Therapists telling doctors how to treat patients and if doctors don't do what they say, they rat them out to upper directors. And out of fear, they do as the therapists say. This needs to stop. If they want to be doctors go to school and get an MD degree .

    Advice to Management

Have your staff get psychiatric evaluations, and make sure they take their medicine before going to work. Do more investigation on who work for you and upper directors need to officially learn who his staff are, and why people in the past have left . It's the same reason over and over again. Wake up to why people leave the therapy department . Call the past employees, and ask them to tell you the truth. Do patient surveys in the therapy department not just with doctors and hopefully the truth will prevail. Pray because you need God in your hearts . You absolutely are disgusting as a professionals. Gain empathy for patients they are human beings.
