I worked at Concern Worldwide full-time

    Pros

    Great mission!
    Good benefits
You'll have the opportunity to do more than what your job description asks (may be a con to some)

    Cons

-Upper management isn't very decisive. Some actions are taken when it's almost too late.
-Despite the fact that it's a nonprofit, some of the staff members are very selfish and self-important.
-It isn't the most diverse office.
    -Retention rate isn't very high.

    Advice to Management

-Revamp your hiring process so that you don't end up with employees running entire departments while others sit comfortably.
    -Diversify your office.

    Pros

    Great benefits! Transit is included.

    Cons

Old adage is true at Concern - about 10% of the people do 90% of the work. No strategy, lack of support, poor management, high turnover.

I have been working at Concern Worldwide full-time

    Pros

Team is amazing, many opportunities to grow and learn, willingness to support individuals who have new ideas for the programs. There are so many programs around the world, as well as domestically. The opportunities to learn are endless.

    Cons

It can get a bit difficult balancing tasks, as it it a non-governmental organization and many individuals are taking on heavy workloads to maintain operations and functions of the organization.

    Advice to Management

There are a variety of managers and leaders in the organization, and they are always willing to sit down and speak with individuals on their career goals and opportunities to develop in the field of international health.

    Pros

The people are totally committed and loyal to Concern, and believe in its mission of ending extreme poverty. They tend to be almost unbelievably earnest.

    Cons

Concern hasn't come into its own in the industry - it is bound to its history as the only organization like it in Ireland, and hasn't adjusted to the more competitive US market, though they have great ambitions to "play with the big boys"

    Advice to Management

Deal with the governance, performance, and communication issues before your staff all leave!

I worked at Concern Worldwide part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very pleasant colleagues. We always had the tools to do our jobs. Never an issue if you needed a day's leave.

    Cons

Some messers on the team who were being carried by the rest of us. Salary stagnated over a decade. No opportunities to move within the organisation.

    Advice to Management

Talent spot a bit and you'll find some hidden qualities in the staff!
