I have been working at Concur full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great opportunities if you are in sales.

    Cons

Plays favorites, if you are a female it is really hard to get opportunities now that they are owned by SAP. SAP leaders slowly taking over and changing culture. Want it to be a do it yourself culture where no real human actually is willing to help. Concur never used to be that way.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of Jam pages and service centers located in Asia and Europe and put people in place that can actually help.

    Not a cut throat environment

    Cons

Middle Management is ineffective and there are too many layers in middle management.

    Advice to Management

Promote internal candidates over external hires.

Be open to new ideas and different points of view.

I worked at Concur full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I really and truly did enjoy my time at Concur. Most of the people are really great and I made so many friends. I learned so much along the way and grew as a professional. The Executive team is comprised of some really smart people who work very hard to keep the culture going strong and they continue driving Concur's vision of "The Perfect Trip". The product itself is by far the market leader, I was always very excited to talk to about our vision and how we will continue to do exciting things.

    Cons

Lots of political circles, if you're not included you will have a much harder time. The company has a lot of people who have been with Concur from the early days, some are in mid-level and senior management roles. I would assume that many are in management because of the tight circles, some of these people should not be in leadership roles. They are only concerned with themselves and climbing the management ladder. I've witnessed some of the senior management at team building events behave in a manner that I know the Executive's would not condone. It's very sad to see this type of behavior, it promotes a toxic culture.

    Advice to Management

My message to Executive Leadership is continue to promote innovation and foster a family-like culture. Be cautious of friendships you have made over the years with long-time employees, as some seem to think they are untouchable and can do things that are not always ethical.

Mid to Senior Level Management: Treat all of your employees equally. I understand that a business is being run, but don't always take the word from one individual and assume your employee is bad. Have a spine and defend your employees once in a while, have their back sometimes on instances. And most importantly, take time to get to know your employees. Listen to their feedback and ideas, it might just help you climb the ladder quicker.

I worked at Concur as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - very friendly, sociable employees
    - well-structured internship program with lots of fun events and 120 other college or recent grad interns
    - many career-development opportunities, including networking outside your department
    - well-paid

    Cons

    - I didn't have a lot to do, had to continually ask for projects (as did the other marketing interns I spoke to)
    - although it was advertised as an internship wherein the interns get interesting projects, I did almost entirely menial work like plugging numbers into spreadsheets
    - they told us during recruitment and at the beginning of the program that 90% of interns get hired on full-time after their internships, but this was not true - very, very few interns got hired on, including some who had just graduated and were counting on the job

    Pros

Great Benefits for a large company

    Cons

For a company with such a great culture, disappointing that a company would release someone who increased revenue in their territory by 200%.

    Pros

    Great work/life balance and culture.

    Cons

Incompetent leadership is sometimes not addressed. Especially in the software quality discipline this is debilitating. This seems to be much better in the software development and product management disciplines.

    Advice to Management

Address weak upper managers and don't let them drive away the talented engineers.
