Vogue Editorial Internship
Dec 6, 2012 - Editorial Intern in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I was there for 3.5 months. Really exciting stuff if you're into fashion and want to learn about the inner workings of a top magazine, you get to see actual projects you work on end up in the magazine and the website. You get to meet editors, models, designers and photographers. There's a sweet cafe (free water and free seltzer!) and it's a huge space.
Cons
There's a lot of attitude. There's no opportunity for advancement...I met people who were unpaid interns post graduation who were there unbeknownst to HR (who only allow you to intern for a semester at a time, one semester a year) who the editors work like slaves. Some of the editors leave at 5pm to get their hair blown out for events and force the interns to stay until all hours of the night (in spite of that Time magazine article saying that CN enforces the 'unpaid interns must leave by 7pm rule'). You get some power but you also get trampled and utterly used up, you will be exhausted and unhappy, like many of the people working there.

I was on of the Summer 2009 Conde Nast Summer Internship Program and was personally placed with Lucky Magazine
Apr 17, 2010 - Advertising & Sales Intern, Summer Internship Program in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The pro's of the Conde Nast Summer Internship Program are endless. Out of the ongoing list, my top three pro's would have to be the following: 1. Unbelievable dedication to making sure every intern was given a complete understanding and experience of the entire Conde Nast/publishing industry, regardless of personal placement. 2. The entire Conde Nast company/all employees were delightful to work for and extremely kind, genuine, and always willing to help clarify or further explain 3. The Conde Nast building (4 Times Square) is impeccably clean, easy to commute to, and very safe
Cons
The only "con" that I can truly admit to after spending three months at Conde Nast was that as a part of the internship program, the compensation was a measly $8 per day...very hard to be able to afford when being a college student in NYC!

Interns need tough skin!
Jun 15, 2013 - Fashion Intern in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Being around all of the designer clothes. Meeting other nice interns.
Cons
This was not an easy internship...on your feet all day (with blisters) constantly running around NY picking up and returning samples, running personal errands for editors, packing and unpacking for photo shoots. Not only was this internship unpaid, but credit was required for you to begin the internship, and you had to PAY for the subway every time you go on a run. That can quickly add up to $16.00 a day. We were told in the beginning that we would get a $12 stipend a day but there were "budget cuts" so we never got them. Absolutely violated labor laws according to what an internship is supposed to be. After all the hard work, I still didn't regret it though. It was an interesting experience being around all of the beautiful clothes and seeing how they translated to the pages of the magazine.

Experience is what you make it!
Dec 27, 2013 - Intern in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
My experience at Conde Nast was a great one! At the end of the day it truly is what you make of it. With the lack of structure, it can be easy to just get caught up in completing tasks without any feeling of true growth. However, if proactive, you can easily network around different departments and make the most of your internship. I found that everyone I interacted with was extremely helpful. Also, the work environment was very relaxed and fun making for an enjoyable and different day each morning I came in.
Cons
Internships are non-paid, however if you can make it work it is definitely worth the experience and relationships. There is also a lacking of a structured internship training program.

Kind of crazy, but solid payoff for working with such a big name.
Sep 20, 2014 - Graphic Design Intern in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Big name-recognition. Interning there had a huge part of my first couple job opportunities. We got some pretty nice swag on occassion. *Some* of the staff, particularly my department, were so sweet. Very good people. I also was built into. The department was eager for me to learn a variety of things and get a lot of different types of experience.
Cons
Crazy hours if you're salaried. Most people worked 8-7. They were pretty flexible with me as an intern, though. It's typical fashion workplace/corporate america. It's fast-paced, tight deadlines, and crazy bosses that the whole office is scared of. It was eerily similar to some Devil Wears Prada scenes.

Pros
Great place to learn about the ins and outs of the publications industry. Great place to learn how to deal with pressure in a fast paced environment. The supervisors in my department were also wonderful when it came to giving feedback towards my performance.
Cons
Overall vibe of company is slightly uppity. Compensation for interns is not nearly enough compared to the amount of work they put in.

The quality of work was great, but the people are a little bit too haughty.
Nov 25, 2012 - Creative Services Intern in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
There is a great working environment and the clients are incredible. You get to mingle and collaborate with some of the best in the business.
Cons
The company lives up to its name in terms of employees and their personalities. Sometimes you may find that your peers believe they are much better than you at what they do. You must be patient and willing to work with others under stressful conditions.
