    I worked at Connection full-time

    Pros

Great people and a strong work life balance.

    Cons

Very old systems, is stuck in the 90s with the sales mentality. Needs to upgrade management with other industry talent.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to the way customers want to partner - solutions, business issue resolution are whats driving their technology spend and training the sales force to take advantage of these trends. Success is not about 60 phone calls, 2 hours of talk time or being plugged into the procurement systems.

    Pros

If you have a good manager, and a strong work ethic, this might work for you.

    Cons

There's a work hard/play hard mentality which is great if you/re 22. Way too many vendor events after hours in which inappropriate behavior is the norm

    Advice to Management

invest in your people, not vendor programs

    Pros

Hours are good, benefits are good. Pay for sales is decent if you have no experience and are just starting out but this is not a place for those with experience. Free lunches, raffles and annual trips. Good opportunities to take on other positions within the company if sales isn't your thing.

    Cons

For Sales the pay is only good for those who are new in the business or those who are in the top 10% of the company. For everyone else this place just isn't worth the money they pay. Depending on your territory your management team could be good or it could be terrible. No real "leaders" just micro-managers who are puppets of the directors. Internal systems are incredibly outdated and slow. Reps are often pulled in many different directions which take time away from doing what you are supposed to do. Sell. There is some potential here but this is a culture that doesn't do well with change. The sales floor can be very toxic with all of the negativity and this starts with management. A lot of gossip and not a lot of professionals who just want to work. Be prepared to cold call all day long. If that is not your thing, look elsewhere. They track each call and will occasionally listen in on your calls without you knowing. Good for some folks but terrible for others.

    Advice to Management

Hire managers who are leaders. Managers who can lead, inspire, motivate and be tough when needed. Managers need to focus on making Connection a positive environment once again. And update those awful systems they are painful to use.

I have been working at Connection (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Co-workers are easy to get along with, makes work enjoyable. Good benefits, good amount of vacation.

    Cons

Pay is low and barely increases over time compared to other distribution companies for trained equipment operators. Pay not competitive over time spent with the company also comparable to other distribution companies. Too much favoritism, not enough equal opportunity from management. Although "your" vacation is accrued over time depending on who you are or who your under, you may not get the time you put in for, management may tell you "I don't know until it comes down to the wire what the work load is going to be so I can't approve or wait and see" so be careful booking trips in advance, you may not be able to use "your" accrued vacation time. Attendance policy depends on who you are, perfect attendance may not be rewarded come eval time though some employees may come and go as they please and still get looked upon favorably depending on member of management.

    Advice to Management

Comparing starting pay from other companies in the area should not be a justified means of low pay over time spent, also need to look at what other distribution companies pay over time spent for the same type of job and the realization that Connection is no where near that pay scale. The departments with in the company are very segregated, too much favoritism.

I worked at Connection full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

MoreDirect provides plenty of internal resources to assist outside Sales team when in the field. In addition, there are some very smart folks working at this company, they're always ready and willing to help. The entire sales team, both inside and outside, work virtual. Also, the company will give you a draw for the first year while you ramp up.

    Cons

Sales management is short sighted, this is the nature of the reseller business. You are not encouraged to pursue larger deals as they take to long to close. Again, this is the nature of this business, close as many smaller deals as possible so you can get "numbers on the board". The pressure is unbelievable. Although you get a draw during the first year, if you are not producing by then be prepared to get written up.

    Advice to Management

Recognize the types of salespeople you have, some will pursue smaller deals and some are more strategic...Also, follow up on meetings you attend as opposed to checking a box and help new reps actually close business as opposed to simply talking about it.

I worked at Connection full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Reasonable salary
     - Good benefits
     - 30 year legacy
     - Significantly large and diverse customer base
     - Loyal customers
     - US based company (no outsourced or offshore workforce)

    Cons

    - Antiquated IT infrastructure
PCC can sell anything to modernize your data center, but they won't upgrade theirs

     - Marketing is out of control:
Marketing the company as a National Solution Provider is very misleading. This company has very few W-2 resources and subs service delivery work to every mom-n-pop shop that can spell I.T. and fog a mirror. Don't expect PCC resources to being doing the work you're paying for.

     - Lack of leadership
Encouraging the entrepreneurial spirit is one thing, but management is ad-hoc at best unless your in sales...then you can't do anything right even though they don't provide the tools to the get the job done

    Advice to Management

If the company is being groomed to be sold so the founders can cash out and retire...be transparent. The employees will stay if you are honest and open with them.

Please come together as a single company with a singular vision and mission objectives. Multiple brands with siloed leadership continues to foster an environment of disjointed, disconnected vertical organizations with no growth opportunity. This is the 21st century..."We've always done that way" should never be heard in a company with ambitious growth objectives.
