I have been working at Connells full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Depending on the office the team are great potential to control your own income career progression established brand

    Cons

very low basics compared to other companies in the same sector. high targets that are often not realistic based on the branches budget long hours where you are made to feel bad for taking an hour lunch break contracted weekends 6 days one week 5 days the next

    Advice to Management

offer flexi time, dont talk to the staff like crap at meetings and perhaps pay competetive basics if you want to keep staff.

    Pros

Great Team in Thame Very Professional Great Competitiveness

    Cons

Minimal Commission from Sales from as low as 3% of company’s fee Long hours (however this is part of the job and not really a con if you can hack it)

    Advice to Management

Increase commission, especially you are making the company good money and reward good salesmanship at all levels.

I worked at Connells full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Some nice people to have a laugh with in the office and to go to the pub (to drown your sorrows) after work

    Cons

Literally everything. Pathetic pay, awful management, ridiculous working hours, bullying and scaremongering tactics, awful commission (which they will steal off you when you leave anyway), all liars, stupid targets. Horrible horrible place to work.

    Advice to Management

Remember your staff are PEOPLE not numbers. They need to earn enough money to enjoy life, not just to live. Forcing people into mortgage appointments is just bad practice. People like to have their own advisors. The VENDORS are your actual clients, not the buyers. Focus on them before you focus on whatever the buyer needs from you - the buyer isn’t going to pay you a percentage of the sale of the house. Senior... Management: man up and address the big issues in your area (like the market and the office dynamics) before coming for individual, junior members of staff. Calling the managers at 9pm when they are at home with their kids is beyond unprofessional, and refusing to speak to me for FIVE MONTHS because I was lied to about the job is infantile.

    Cons

Unfair treatment of staff across different levels of the business, low salaries, inflexible, culture of mistrust, cramped office spaces.

    Advice to Management

Introduce a more flexible approach to work, trust employees more, make an effort to develop and bolster employees.

I worked at Connells full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Nice offices. Decent annual party. Colleagues were good and had ‘freedom’ to manage my own work and time.

    Cons

Bad pay structures. Basic wage is so low and so far below minimum wage that when you earn decent commission you’re only just earning above minimum wage! Any little thing you sell you receive a tiny percentage. Then your managers earn theirs. Then the area manager earns their cut. And so on!

    Advice to Management

I had a total lack of training, after two years I had still not received formal training! Improve pay structure- as an estate agent minimum wage should not be the benchmark. Targets during work are very unrealistic also. Also there was a culture of handing in your notice to get a pay rise. Instead of recognising hard work and commitment management would push you until you handed in your notice .

    "An immorally corrupt culture"

I worked at Connells full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The ability to get out the office to purchase tea, coffee and milk....

    Cons

In general, there is am immorally corrupt culture that exists within this company. Favoring someone to complete a mortgage with Connells over a cash buyer thereby purposely delaying putting cash offers to vendors as they know a mortgage buyer will attract commission for the company. Advertising shared ownership properties but failing to disclose important material facts such as a large cash premium required to... purchase the property in advance of a mortgage application. Sending threatening legal letters to employees should they even speak to any potential future employer(s) regardless that the current employee approached the potential new employer about a job role. Incredible pressure on sales targets bordering on bullying from senior management and to the detriment of the clients. Treating employees with mental health issues in an unfavorable manner and with little compassion. No sick pay whatsoever, understandable if you have time off for a cold for example but if you suffer a life-threatening accident and you are hospitalised in a foreign country and completely immobile for weeks, lost your family in said accident and feel like life could not get any worse – then it really does not matter to Connells of your circumstances or length of service, you have to simply rely on the statutory sick pay allowance provided by the Government. Fantastic if you have a young family to support and a mortgage to pay for…. Cost-cutting. Water coolers and the office cleaners have been taken away leaving employees having to drink from kitchen sink (untested pipes) and informing employees that they are having to empty bins, clean toilets, wash and hoover up at the end of each working day. This had to be completed outside of office working hours and indeed outside of any contractual agreement, or you would be reprimanded for not hitting your sales targets. If you have the desire to go into estate agency as ‘a number’ then do not hesitate in applying for a Connells role. Quite simply, please consider all alternative options before joining this company.

I have been working at Connells full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Easy to get a job because of the ridiculously high turnover rate Learn exactly how an employer SHOULDNT treat you Get your foot in the door to being an estate agent

    Cons

Hysterically bad micro management from area directors Stupidly long working weeks Shady business practices

    Advice to Management

Teach your area directors to manage the branch managers, not manage every single negotiator. Set reasonable targets for each branch, not equal targets for all branches. Allow branches to settle when new employees begin.

I have been working at Connells full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Not a lot of ‘pros’ about the company!

    Cons

Awfully low pay Poor commission structure Poor car allowance Little career guidance and support from management

    Advice to Management

Management need to stop selling ‘the dream’ before employment as there is such a high turn over of staff due to this and the way members of staff are treated. No recognition for achieving and no benefits what so ever! No a lot of positive things to say about the Connells Group.
