I have been working at ConocoPhillips (More than 10 years)

    Pros

good salary and compensation when oil price is good. lots of technical people recruited no matter they qualify or not, experienced or not.

    Cons

Rounds of lay off can be an option whenver cost is being mentioned or politics started to become a topic in office. most phillips people have already left the company.

    Advice to Management

    be fair

    Cons

Very little exposure to management, poorly ran assets, little to no communication between teams in the same asset area causing major issues in planning

    Pros

Some great coworkers, decent compensation, good company overall

    Cons

Young managers treat seasoned professionals (turned consultants) terribly, especially in IT.

    Advice to Management

You lay people off, then you outsource from overseas or hire American contractors who are actually experienced in the Energy business. Your company is in dire need of knowledgeable employees, not children just out of college with multiple degrees. Train young, inept managers to treat their elders with the hard-earned respect they deserve. Seasoned employees-turned-contractors are tired of being treated like dogs. Good luck successfully completing complex projects with the college kids -- high on education, low on business (or people/team) knowledge.

I have been working at ConocoPhillips full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some great geoscientists working here, some good collaboration.

    Cons

Complete upheaval due to cost saving and re-organisation. Exploration on a shoe-string

    Advice to Management

plan better for next time. there are ups and downs in oil price

    Pros

Good pay for the area, decent benefits. Lots of good rank-and-file people.

    Cons

Given that it's not a tech company, true tech-heads will find it hard to get along for an extended period of time. Falls heavily into the camp of, "IT is vital to our day-to-day money-making operations, but we're still going to consider it a cost center and neglect its needs." It tends to make for a less-than-great working environment.

Being an old energy company with an exaggerated IT infrastructure leads, inevitably, to strict silos. 3-5 years before you're allowed to work on some other tech in the company is a death sentence to the technically apt.

    Advice to Management

Strictly discourage the tendency of folks to make a name for themselves by pushing through random crap that the rank-and-file employees rail against. The people "in the trenches" have a far better idea of what works on the technical side than the managers / directors / whatever else - if you don't want to listen to the "normal" low-rank employees, then let them go.

I have been working at ConocoPhillips full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great place to work for the experience and knowledge you gain.

    Cons

Current supervisor offers no encouragement or incentive to want to be here. I will not say its the culture of the company as a whole, just my particular group.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring outside for Supervisor/Management Positions. We have enough experience and knowledgeable people to be able to fill those positions internally. If you do hire outside, make sure they don't come from cut throat companies and try to bring that into the ConocoPhillips company.

I have been working at ConocoPhillips full-time

    Pros

Decent employee benefits, 401K match, 9/80 days, vacation, holidays.

    Cons

Company is in serious financial trouble but will not admit to employees. Big layoffs coming in next few months.
Management has treated employees poorly as they have stressed out employees by not doing layoffs after announced, dragging it out over MONTHS without telling people who will be let go. Mental and emotional stress on many people. The tension is palpable.

    Advice to Management

Board needs to rid itself of all executive leadership. They are sinking the ship quickly and not one is being held accountable. Instead of giving a big fat raise to CEO, he should be replaced.
