I worked at ConocoPhillips full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

When the economy is good the pay and benefits are fantastic! The New Hire organization put together some fun events and was probably the highlight of my tenure.

    Cons

All levels of management have no concept of loyalty to their employees. If you're not accepted as part of the "in" crowd, you might as well start looking for your post-layoff career. The environment is extremely political and stuffy. They will money-whip you to get you in the door, and then treat you like garbage as long as you're willing to come to work every day and deal with the stress of "will my position be eliminated today?"

    Advice to Management

Learn the concept of loyalty. If you're going to lay off lower level employees, it doesn't help to save the money you intended when you have to replace 3 employees in the same group because others left fearing the next round of layoffs.

I worked at ConocoPhillips full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great pay, benefits and bonuses when compared to the average job in Houston. Overall good work colleagues. Overall good balance between work and home life.

    Cons

Horrible immediate\local Managers who can't make tough decisions. Upper management care about their careers and not the staff's. Getting in and out of the new office tower is a pain, especially during rush hour. Am concerned the next couple of years are going to be "touch & go" fully dependent on oil prices.

    Advice to Management

Have a major "clean house" of the old guard if you truly want to become an E&P company versus still acting like an huge, integrated oil & gas company. Or, acquire a downstream company and become integrated again.

    Pros

I worked for ConocoPhillips (COPC) for 34 years before leaving the company. During my entire career I firmly believed in their safety motto and that fact that they understood, even for a very large company that "employees" were their most valuable asset. There are always exceptions but at COPC it was an exception, not the rule. Even when hard choices had to be made, My opinion was employees who added value and worked hard were retained or released whith their interest in mind.

    Cons

COPC split from it's downstream arm of the business and in hindsight may be second guessing itself. The upstream and downstream operations countered each other when it comes to oil prices. COPC is to tied to oil prices. There is nothing to keep it afloat during a low oil price environment.

    Advice to Management

Continue to treat your employees as your most valuable asset, because they are. They can make or break you. As my last manager stated, if there are any problem employees left during this entire effort, it's your own fault.

    Pros

this employer takes very good care of their employees both on and off the job, benefits are very good and company has a high standard for core values.

    Cons

Global oil & gas market can turn in a day, oil prices directly impact capital budgets. this will directly impact personnel needs.

    Advice to Management

Management is working hard to weather the stormy market, work harder on clearing the ranks of the clingers. If the market were to return quickly there could be issues with experienced people to take up where the peak market was 18 months ago. I believe the management is truly concerned when layoff's occur.

I have been working at ConocoPhillips full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I enjoy the new office space. The opportunity for experience in many different states and plays is available to everyone.

    Cons

The company split in 2012 to become a pure play oil and gas exploration and production company. Since then, it still functions as an integrated company. Changes are being made to correct that.
