    Positive Outlook

I worked at ConsenSys full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Loved working here. First organization that tried it's hardest to be truly non-hierarchichal, self managing.

    Cons

It can take a while to make decisions, but that's par for the course in a teal organization.

I worked at ConsenSys full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Remote friendly workplace. Can be a fun place.

    Cons

There is no real vision for the company. Corporation focus changes almost every month. Little to no job security. Clueless management with no real business experience. Hero worship towards CEO allows employees to be taken advantage of. Been promising equity for over 3 years - still nothing.

I have been working at ConsenSys full-time for more than a year

    Pros

ConsenSys largely consists of a number of semi-independent teams supported by an overarching company infrastructure. The company structure is largely flat and democratic (modeled after Ethereum). Personally, this has provided me with the perfect environment to work in - self-sufficiency and independent contributions are highly encouraged. That being said, your experience may vary wildly based on which team you end up in. The company as a whole has had to evolve rapidly. While previously ConsenSys was all about building ideas and expanding on what blockchain can do, over the past year it's had to deal with growing pains and enforcing a sustainable business model.

    Cons

Many of the points in the pro section could also be listed in this con section. The aforementioned growing pains have included two major rounds of layoffs within a year. I'm happy to just work with my team and go with the flow - those who aren't like me (or can't work like me) will likely find the company chaotic, confusing, and often hard to effectively communicate with. Slack is like the wild west. Free speech is encouraged but with the wide range of personalities in the company, this can often lead to hot tempers or even bullying - don't be afraid to defend yourself, it might be all the protection you get. I'm also very concerned about what I've heard about the experiences for women and PoC. Some issues include crap healthcare, marginalization and sexism.

I worked at ConsenSys full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The remote first culture is amazing.

    Cons

Zero growth. No training for employees. The benefits are not great. Leaders have no interest in your career growth.

I worked at ConsenSys full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great work life balance, freedom over what you work on, unlimited vacation, really smart people and can absorb a lot of ambient knowledge,.

    Cons

Highly disorganized at every level of the organization except within small project teams, poor leadership, no training or mentorship, lack of clear direction on business metrics to pursue (outside of small teams).

    I worked at ConsenSys

    Pros

A good number of smart people who are current or past employees passionate about Ethereum

    Cons

CEO is very likable but only listens to what he wants to hear. Great employees have been booted out with their hard work lost if they disagree with him or challenge decisions he’s made. He surrounds himself with abusive and sick individuals who mistreat staff. The CEO knows these stories but does nothing about it and doesn’t seem to care. Even post lay offs, a good portion of the company doesn’t have real roles and get away with not contributing anything because they do a good job of seeming like they are to the CEO who has terrible judgment and no performance metrics implemented to properly judge employees.

I worked at ConsenSys full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    (1) work remotely, anywhere (2) employer branding within the blockchain space (although, this is doing down fast) (3) great network, community building, great events

    Cons

    (1) everyone seems to like to talk more than they work here - constant posts on linkedin about what theyre doing etc but really nothing actually gets done (2) is quite hard to control too many remote workers that doesn't follow the vision of remote mentality (3) HR team is very immature and made you go "who else works here?" Why arn't I with the brightest people (4) Leaders seem to love talking to events but that's pretty much of it (5) Reputation down due to layoffs in 2018 and seems like it will probably happen again. That's because no one is actually working! All twitter fingers, egos behind a screen but no one does any of the ground work.

I have been working at ConsenSys full-time for more than a year

    Pros

ConsenSys is focused on solving real-world problems using the most powerful blockchain that's out there. The organization is full of talented smart people who believe in the decentralized vision. Blockchain itself is a volatile industry and because of that there were some inevitable ups and downs. ConsenSys is still one of the most legit blockchain entities out there backed by the co-founder of Ethereum. It the perfect place for anyone who wants to take a risk to be part of a big movement. It's a young company learning from it's mistakes and there is significant opportunity for those who are disciplined, hardworking and proactive. The key to success at any startup (not just ConsenSys) is to embrace the vision and work hard to contribute to its success.

    Cons

Same issues as any other young startup. The company is recovering from the negative publicity that stemmed from 2018 layoffs. HR processes are still a bit immature which can sometimes overcast the great work being done here. Look at ConsenSys's Glassdoor review history. It was a 4.5/5 right before the layoffs which is way more reflective of its true culture.
