I worked at Consolidated Credit Counseling full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked in the PR/marketing department for Consolidated Credit for about two years. April Lewis-Parks was my boss and she was amazing! I learned so much from her on the public relations side... she has so much insight to offer to any PR or marketing professionals looking for a great work place to learn on the job. She was a great boss who was understanding, positive, fun to go to lunch or happy hour with and an overall pleasure to work with and learn from. In addition to the great group of people at Consolidated, I had the opportunity to learn so much about personal finance and the financial industry.

    Cons

April, Gary and all of the exec team were great -- I really have no complaints.

    Advice to Management

Keep being supportive of your team! You're doing a great job and thanks everything.

I worked at Consolidated Credit Counseling full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Consolidated Credit was a great place to work. Management is flexible and listens to your ideas. It's an ideal place to learn, gain experience and help the community with financial advice. People are really fun, friendly and understanding; they care about getting the work done but also about the health and well-being of their employees. This is not corporate america, where you are treated as a number. Here upper management knows your name and greets you when you come in to the office. The best part is the holiday events/parties organized by the organization. They are fun!!! Also, most managers are engaged with the organization and take the time to teach and train their employees.

    Cons

    Moving up may be challenging.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work.
Make an effort to keep talented and hardworking employees.

I worked at Consolidated Credit Counseling full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Funny humorous coworkers , best producing salesman discussed benefits of 2-ply tp savings over 3-ply. Beer Fridays when hottest chicks were in house.

    Cons

No real training ,to adhere to unless you become certified, then just memorizing the answers supplied by supers. Favoritism towards workers of particular religion. Combined solicitations for other companies ,as Wounded Warriors, during the spiel to save money on credit debt.

    Advice to Management

Stop the quotas. Make the job transparent from the start , sales and commissions only. Advice clients that there is a payoff from the credit companies called the 'Fair' bonus for getting the members to payoff their debt.

I worked at Consolidated Credit Counseling full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent credit consolidation plan for clients (customers)
    Great perks for employees
Senior management knows each employee personally
    Opportunity for growth

    Cons

Retention would be higher if salaries were higher. Most of the best employees have left to work somewhere else, probably not as good a company, in order to obtain a livable salary.

    Advice to Management

CCCS offer a valid solution to people drowning in credit card debt, and clients who enroll and participate get out of debt and increase their credit-worthiness. Most employees like the environment and culture, but can't live on the salary. I would advise upper management to pay employees more to increase retention. I loved my job but resigned to take a comparable job paying 35% higher salary.

I have been working at Consolidated Credit Counseling full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Flexible schedule. Work at home.

    Cons

Pay by performance. You get paid 500/week for the first six weeks then its commission only. It is sales only. There is no counseling. "Counselors" lie to get clients signed up for debt management program even when they know they are not qualified. Training is pretty woeful. There is not quality check for the phone calls in place. They only time the calls are recorded are when credit report is being pulled.

    Advice to Management

Start paying the "counselors" hourly or a salary. Put in place a quality system that reduces the unethical behavior.
