    Pros

    The pay and benefits are very good compared to other employment opportunities in this area.

    Cons

    There is no compensation for hours worked beyond 40. It is expected and normal that an employee will work 50 - 60 hours a week without compensation or flex time. Work/Life balance are hollow corporate catch phrases and has no real meaning or due consideration from senior management.

    Advice to Management

    Compensate your employees for all hours worked or at least hire and provide staffing levels that support 40 hour work weeks.

    Top Management stinks at communicating to employees. Company almost went bankrupt last year because of poor management oversight, yet they get large $ in salary and bonuses.

    Pros

    The company still provides a pension; employees in favored positions are treated fairly well. Despite the company coming very close to bankruptcy on Wednesday, September 17, 2008, it appears to be stable with the potential to grow.

    Cons

    Greed is the motivator for senior management. They will pay and treat employees as well as they have to and still pocket huge amounts of money for incredibly incompetent leadership. There is no union and employees have suffered greatly due to no protection. Human Resource-type positions are considered necessary evils and employees in those areas in particular are considered completely expendable. With unemployment so high now, the company's attitude toward employees these days is "You are lucky to have a job when so many don't; if you don't like the way we treat you, you can leave."

    Advice to Management

    It is not smart to abruptly downsize the company by 800 employees and expect the survivors to do the absent employees' jobs with no promotion, no salary increase, and no protection against the resulting adverse working conditions. So many employees would leave tomorrow if they felt there were other reasonable options. Many people have families in the Baltimore area and it is not easy for them to locate other jobs. But please understand, many employees are miserably unhappy.
    Where do you dig up your executives? Have you heard of leadership training or making them accountable for their leadership ability rather than ability to make money?

    Pros

    -You can use vacation time as long as you ask in advance
    -Free candy at the front desk
    -Health fairs/incentives to join health related things/blood drives

    Cons

    -While it boasts merit based promotions/pay, this is not often the case
    -Many decisions are political and personal, and there is obvious favoritism that strongly sways decisions that should be made from an economical/practical/logistical perspective
    -Management is in disarray and no one seems to really know what they are doing
    -"Restructuring" happens so often that the worker doesn't even know what business unit of Constellation they work for
    -While they claim to care about their employees, the company ultimately cares more about the dollar than their workers
    -Poor communication within the company/business units

    Advice to Management

    -Plan in advance before pursing a project because with no goal, it is impossible to be successful

    I worked at Constellation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -Excellent yearly bonus package.
    -Flexibility to work off-site (which is also a con, see below).
    -Nice people to work with for the most part.
    -If you like to travel both with a lot of notice or little notice, then this is definitely the right company to work for.

    Cons

    -Very high turnover due to low morale, burnout, bad management, and a variety of other reasons.
    -You have to constantly battle and fight for a reasonable budget to complete or maintain projects delegated by senior leadership. Yet the travel budget is astronomical - most (but of course not all) business trips that are assigned could be done over the phone or on Skype or a product like it, if the company reevaluated the cost of implementing a video conferencing tool versus how many thousands of dollars they are wasting on air fare, bar binging, hotels, etc.
    -Culture is stiff, impersonal, unhealthy and does not promote employee wellness or personal health at all. There is no on-boarding for new employees or even any type of HR presence at all. You're expected to be on-call around the clock and when groups get together through travel there is extreme binge drinking (many times on the company dime), from employees of all ages not just the 20-somethings.
    -Management expectations are completely unrealistic, which drives people to work way beyond their capacity (and many times burn out) or to never feel a sense of completion or satisfaction.
    -Very frequent movement of teams and changes in reporting structure, which is often interpreted by employees that management doesn't know what they are doing.
    -Absolutely no work-life balance for people who are truly working hard (some people actually aren't and try hard to fake the fact that they are not hard-working). Everyone is granted with off-site access so even during extreme and stressful situations such as hurricanes and states of emergency, employees are expected to be working.
    -Since right before Exelon bought the company, there has been very little room to move or grow into a new position, there are very few promotional opportunities, and many people feel "stuck" or even worse, worried about whether they will even have a job. Many times when people leave, their job is not back-filled and the work gets pushed out to the remaining team members who are already overworked.
    -During occasional road closing/horrendous traffic events because of national or large-scale events in Baltimore, Maryland employees are never advised to work off-site (even though it would make for a more productive work day), but when similar events take place in regional offices, there is more sensitivity.

    Advice to Management

    Covered in the cons section above, the main point is that there is a lack of work-life balance, which results with low morale, burnout, resentment, and a high turnover rate -- in turn, you are wasting money by not treating your employees like people.

    Pros

    good pay, fascinating industry tackling important and societal challenge

    Cons

    Nothing gets done in this organization
    and if someone gets the courage to do anything, the initiative gets killed ...

    there is no creativity, no constructive conversation,
    every talented person left the company. the people that are left are just fighting over the same ideas that have been swirling around for the last 5 years, but none of them are even capable of pulling these ideas off, or are too sheepish to try. Employee turnover is very high.

    The industry is getting disrupted... and they are just paralyzed, and whining about the status of the industry, instead of seeing it as an opportunity, and leading the transformation of this industry.

    I have never seen so much value destruction in front of my eyes in my entire career. It's deplorable.

    Advice to Management

    Be responsible.
    Create value
    Put the company's interest before your own petty career

    I have been working at Constellation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    There is none. Pay is acceptable.

    Cons

    The environment is really bad in Constellation Energy. You work on week end and late every day. Management does not care about work life balance. Think twice before you accept your offer letter. Do not just look at the salary as you will be disappointed. Management have even problem have people to accept offers as when you see how people work in company you will change your mind.

    Have a second look at the work life balance.

    Pros

    Good life-work balance.
    No pressure in a utility style company.

    Cons

    The company is very hierarchical and political.
    The internal competition makes coordination difficult.
    The company keeps losing strong and experienced employees and will soon be taken over by politicians.
    Wrong decisions are made everyday and taking over by Exelon is the worst thing that happens to a good company.

    Advice to Management

    Reduce the number of managers.
