I worked at Constellation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The energy industry typically pays more than many other industries--at least locally. I got a significant bump with a lower title and less hours worked when taking a position here. There were great opportunities for learning at this company, depending on the division you work in.

    Cons

There was a feeling that it was tough to get promoted, no matter how hard one worked. Like many places, the politics were frustrating at times. Bad behavior from higher-level management was often times ignored.

    Advice to Management

Focus on office culture and listening and responding to feedback from your employees. Encourage higher ethical standards from your leadership.

    Pros

The company is one of the most diversified energy service companies covering all aspects of energy generation and demand side management

    Cons

The various departments work independent but a collaborative effort may bring in synergies in the product offerings

I have been working at Constellation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Cover the entire retail energy product and service portfolio right from being the largest retail energy provider with offerings in commodity, demand response, energy efficiency, solar and other renewable energy attributes

    Cons

Due to the internal structural challenges it is difficult to effectively provide a comprehensive offering. Commodity sales force which is the largest individual group are hesitant in offering comprehensive service offerings due to differing sales cycles and lack of knowledge

    Advice to Management

Have technical sales or solutions developers who can develop and structure comprehensive and synergistic energy solutions offerings who have knowledge and expertise across the entire energy strategy

I have been working at Constellation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent benefits, opportunity to work closely with C-level management, stable work environment.

    Cons

The nuclear group is a great place to be if you are a nuclear engineer, but not a place for a finance professional. Though the team is made up of smart and talented people, there are very limited opportunities for growth

I worked at Constellation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Enjoyed the people and made many great friends and work relationships and the job was a great learning experience. Good pay and bonus.

    Cons

Some jobs are very structured where people are unable to think on their own and think outside the box to curtail future problems. Difficult to maneuver career, really need to be in right place at right time or know the right person. I don't feel jobs were filled based on best qualified candidates.

    Advice to Management

More employee recognition and engagement programs.

    Cons

Management team disorganized and very competitive with each other. Company didn't have a well-defined strategy

I have been working at Constellation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fortune 500, brand recognition, decent salary once you move up the ranks, nice downtown location, management is personable, tuition reimbursement (now it takes three years to forgive(1/3 a year), generous sick leave, average 401k match

    Cons

Difficult to move up the ranks (when the company was smaller it was a lot easier), feel like a number, not a person, work environment is like a factory floor or sardine can, have to pay for parking, bureaucracy, no recognition for advanced degrees, organization is so large you never know who to go to, office gets so loud you can't hear yourself think.

    Advice to Management

Provide a more comfortable work environment (ex. cubicles, white noise). Currently the offices are set up in rows like a factory floor, no privacy, and extremely loud at times (disruptive). Provide more cross-training opportunities so people have more exposure to different areas and have back up for when they are out of the office.
