    Pros

Decent compensation and competitive benefits package. Constellation is a large company with good geographic diversity. It has many excellent people to learn from and the company encourages information sharing.

    Cons

The geographic diversity can be a problem in that it makes it difficult to develop the relationships necessary to be effective in your role.

    Advice to Management

Constellation's management suffers from the same problem that many management groups have: they think that their leadership is the answer to the company's problems.

    Pros

Good coworkers, great salary level for the greater DC area. Depending on which department you work for, your contributions may be recognized. Generally good level of vacation days. So far, unlimited sick days (but can he checked upon if requested by management).

    Cons

Depending on who you have as a manager, you may not get necessary guidance. This is changing though. As the company undergoes a merger, there will be plenty of ambiguity. In some departments, contribution by the non-management level may go unnoticed. Performance evaluation from the direct report (i.e. one level above) can be trumphed by senior management to match the department objectives.

    Advice to Management

Learn to be fair to all in promotions and performance evaluations.

    Pros

The compensation package can be good at Constellation; however, the work/life balance will depend upon the department and manager. There are lots of opportunities to learn, grow, and gain exposure to senior management if you're good.

    Cons

If you're good, you'll have more work than you know what to do with. This can lead to a terrible work/life balance if you don't manage it correctly. Also, there has been a lot of organizational changes in the last few years in some of the departments which can be stressful if you like a stable/predictable environment.

    Advice to Management

Continue to allow employees to stretch beyond their job title; however, allow them to make the inevitable mistakes in a safe environment.

"Rewarding summer internship, depending on which department you work"

    Pros

Though I only worked as an intern, I gathered from my full-time colleagues that Constellation has a competitive and generous compensation package. This includes full tuition reimbursements at local colleges and universities. Furthermore, I worked in downtown Baltimore near Inner Harbor so the location is vibrant and exciting, especially during the summer. Many of my intern friends in other departments were kept very busy and immediately immersed in the company's everyday operations.

    Cons

I had minimal training and was given very little direction as to what goals I was hired to accomplish. For most of my time there, I was felt quite bored due to lack of work.

    Advice to Management

Instead of sending out mass e-mails as the primary way of communicating important issues and changes, find a more effective medium so that it's less impersonal.
