I have been working at Contract Land Staff full-time

    Pros

CLS has some amazing training and development for its employees.

    Cons

The good ole boy network is still in existence for some reason.

    Advice to Management

Just because you worked with someone's dad, doesn't mean that the child will be as good as the dad.

    Pros

    Salary
    Office Location
A few of the company officers that have been around for a while are truly wonderful people, but have no real power in the business

    Cons

    Up and down workload
Fire employees "for cause" instead of laying off when work is slow
    Cut throat management
    Working in silos
    Manipulative HR department

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees as humans and not work horses to be discarded once you run out of work for them.

    Pros

This is a integrated full service Land Acquisition Company that focuses on GIS information based process with strong management teams and corporate based HR support. It is primarily a W-2 contract employee structure, with adequate training staff, and administrative support teams.

    Cons

There is a broad range of clients that demand specific engagement process for the service of the regulatory issues that can sometimes end up being a moving target. Working in this field demands a flexible understanding of both administrative parameters and document execution. It is not uncommon to undertake an audit to re-engage documentation to a new standard as regulatory agencies create updated standards that are applied retroactively. The focus is on accuracy of reporting, and use of the GIS interface, as opposed to the general skill of client representation to landowners.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work.

Friendly, supportive, good pay and benefits, #7 in Top 100 Best Places to Work in Houston, Texas!

    Cons

None that I can think of...only that you might not ever want to work anywhere else.

    Pros

I love working at CLS. We have a really good working environment where people team together to get the job done. People are friendly and real. The officers have an open door policy and anyone in the company is free to talk to them at any time. I've had an opportunity to grow and I was given the choice to choose a mentor of my liking. Plus I get A lot of training that is specific to the right of way industry along with professional development classes.

    Cons

The only negative that I have experienced had been with a couple of employees who were unhappy people and didn't do their job. But thank goodness they left

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. I've never worked for a company where officers are so visible and so involved with all levels of employees.

I worked at Contract Land Staff (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The Company has a national presence, which offers road warrior status for contractors. The Company is reported to be well run and solvent.

    Cons

The Company is extremely top heavy with management; all of which are out of touch with its employees. During a company only seminar, one of the VP’s actually stated that the reason field contractors do not receive wage increases is due to the high cost of maintaining corporate staffing…and that the contractors in the field are the ones who bring in the revenue.
There is no accountability within the "office" to follow through with commitments to employees. There is a high degree of dis-organization.

    Advice to Management

Reconsider what is important to sustainability; realign priorities; provide updates and information to clients as they request.

    Pros

Good working environment. Great culture that begins with integrity and ethics throughout. Opportunities for career development and advancement. Company invests a lot in employee training and development. Competitive benefits. Fun employee activities.

    Cons

Most final decisions area made at the top - can bog down schedules and getting things accomplished in a timely manner. Flex hours or 9/80's would be a great addition!

    Advice to Management

Continue to trust your senior management and continue training and growth opportunities for all.

I have been working at Contract Land Staff full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Insurance is a plus. The premiums go up each year. But the company covers employee.
There isn't really that much that is a pro for working here. You will see why in the cons.

    Cons

No Vacation time or plan is given. To cover your spouse or kids is outrageous, Promotions are only granted if your superior likes you. They are not given on merit.
