I have been working at Control4 full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Good atmosphere in the offices (both Irvine, CA and Draper, UT offices)
-The company cares about employee happiness. Although I don't know that this is company wide across all departments.
-When things get bad, upper management does seem to listen.
    -Decent career progression
-Good work life balance. Working about 40-45 hours a week.
-Company made radical changes to management about a year ago which I feel will result in better products down the road.
    -Bagels every Friday.

    Cons

-It can often times feel like there are too many meetings about getting things which leaves less time to actually get things done.
-Company pays employees in California the same as those in Utah. Cost of living is not the same.
-Company is behind it's competitors in a lot of areas.
-There needs to be more transparency with the customer base about product issues.

    Advice to Management

-Keep tabs on the offices that aren't in Draper, UT. When things get boiled up, it seems like it does get attention, but then the attention eventually disappears without problems being fully resolved.
    -Get more developers.
-Don't buy companies without fully understanding how you would integrate it's technology with the current platform(s).

    I worked at Control4 full-time

    Pros

Great team of co-workers in every Department. Certain areas of management are very knowledgeable and makes the company worth being part of.

    Cons

As the company experiences rapid growth, there are some inside processes that may require improvement starting from upper management and working down.

    I have been working at Control4 full-time

    Pros

Excellent benefits including a health plan option with 0 premiums for employees.
Employee beta and purchase programs give you affordable access to otherwise very expensive A/V and home automation tech.
Compensation is very competitive for my field.
Hours are flexible and there is attention to maintaining healthy work/life balance.
Lots of opportunities for domestic and international travel.
Everyone I've worked with so far has been very nice and willing to help.
Lots of additional little perks that make work a nice place to be.
The work is varied and challenging, and there are always new things to learn and do.
All things considered, this is the best place I've ever worked.

    Cons

The company is growing up and out, transitioning from a small private company to a rapidly growing public one. There are the inevitable growing pains that come with this transition.
Some departments are very set in their ways and resistant to change.
The company can be weirdly disorganized in ways that can be frustrating to anyone that has experience working in more tightly controlled corporate environments. Finding the right people and resources can be difficult at times.
The PTO benefits for starting employees is a little low compared to other jobs in my area, but not by much.

    Advice to Management

Establish guidelines and standards to help rein in departments that are too used to doing their own thing.

I have been working at Control4 full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Family atmosphere. PTO, 401K, Insurance. But most importantly because it seems to be a family atmosphere, i actually enjoy going to work each day. If you don't enjoy going to work and doing what you do then why do it anyway.

    Cons

The musical chairs. We seem to move seating areas a lot. It would be nice if we just got a building of our own and were given a space to claim our own.

    Advice to Management

Mini Business management online classes for mid level management teams to become better at what they do. Some management members in C4 do not have any formal training on management but have been given an opportunity to manage a team. We should give them an avenue to learn more about management to be a successful manager.

I have been working at Control4 full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Writing software for home automation systems is awesome
    - Employee beta program means I have far more high-tech in y home than I could ever afford otherwise.

    Cons

    - HA technology ecosystem is very volatile, especially regarding security
    - Given increasing investment by Google, Amazon, Apple, it's hard to say how much of the high-end pie will be left for companies like Control4

    Advice to Management

    - Ignore the low-end market to your peril
    - Self-service, DIY, whatever you want to call it is emerging and isn't going away, don't disdain it, embrace it

    Pros

    The benefits were decent.
Friendly people and not a toxic environment.
    Good lunch facilities and gym.

    Cons

    Pay was below average.
Certain departments mismanage or don't have proper experience managing software engineers.
    Bathrooms were severely overcrowded.

    Advice to Management

Anyone with software engineer as a title needs to be managed by someone with a firm grasp of the languages and tech being developed.
