I have been working at ConvaTec full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Pro pay and benefits, the people you work with. Our last manager and supervisor were great. Production had very weak management. Not good at listening to their employees that could have helped create a wonderful work environment. Wish managers took advice as well as they gave if . Benefits were very good. Vacation time and holidays. Use to care about employed families. I think that corporate did not get a real picture of all that went into making a great product

    Cons

Management needed to be more involved with what happened on the production floor. The company is ruining itself by allowing poor managers consistently make terrible decisions. The cancer is on the inside making it grow to a weak and out of touch company.

    Advice to Management

Listen to people on the production floor

I have been working at ConvaTec full-time

    Pros

Convatec is actively expanding its product offering and improving its margins. Pay and benefits are consistent with medical technology industry norms.

    Cons

Upper management churn has been notable the past couple of years, and divisional and functional under-cooperation tend to stymie improvement initiatives.

    Advice to Management

Continuous improvement only works if the organization is willing to honestly acknowledge flaws and focus on fixing rather than blaming. All too often the elephants in the room have existed so long it's hard to believe the powers that be are unaware.

I have been working at ConvaTec full-time

    Pros

Benefits are decent: Up to 6% match on 401K with immediate vesting. Pay was fair for level of job (but not for the workload). 3 personal days plus 10 holidays, vacation, and 5 sick days per year, however they are use-it-or lose-it: none of these can be carried over to the following year.

    Cons

Management says one thing but does another. Promised training did not happen or was minimal at best. No real interest in improvement of product or processes. People are let go all the time with no warning or transition, causing projects to be terminated or left hanging. Silo mentality runs deep and collaborative efforts are discouraged. Excessive workload deters improvements or even adequate attention to the details. No consideration given for extra hours spent at work, so work/life balance is poor at best. Marketing has had too strong a choke hold on the company for too long, and quality has become tertiary. People are not encouraged to travel together to learn different aspects of the job - in fact such travel and learning is discouraged as "too costly" although there are no backups or real coverage for different jobs.
Health and dental insurance were expensive with high co-pays.

    Advice to Management

Follow through with your commitments to the end users of the product and not so much to the profit margins. Let people actually work together in cross-functional teams to form a consensus and make real process improvements. Senior management needs to step up and accept responsibility for the mess that exists: address the training needs of the personnel, the lack of documented controls for the delivery process. Systems and communication need serious improvement for such an international company. Take care of the end users needs and requests and the profit will come.

I have been working at ConvaTec (More than a year)

    Pros

Compensation is competitive. Ability to learn a lot about the job and cross train

    Cons

Little to no opportunity for advancement for employees on the production floor

    Advice to Management

Be fair to all employees and start listening to some of the concerns of employees.

I have been working at ConvaTec full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people work at ConvaTec. Many have been there for a very long time.
Great products which actually help make customers lives better.

    Cons

Challenges include changing existing processes, products, and equipment due to self imposed regulatory complexity and policy.

    Advice to Management

Understand the total cost of Offshoring, as it will likely be more than expected and you are likely to regret closing the Greensboro plant.

I have been working at ConvaTec full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Clean environment, work is not difficult, decent benefits, make a useful product that helps a wide assortment of people, high tenure facility with lots of knowledge.

    Cons

Hostile environment where anthem hourly work force dictates your success patterns, senior management utilizes favoritism and rumors as decision making tools rather than hard data and proven facts. FEAR based.

    Advice to Management

If you'd spend as much time working together as you did protecting your silos, you'd have an unstoppable team.
