I have been working at Convergys full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

If you're needing a job with decent pay for a short time, then this would be an alright place to work. The training is about 8 weeks and is very manageable, as it's mostly classroom training and learning to navigate the system. It's also extremely easy to get hired. I went for an interview and was immediately hired after about a ten minute conversation with the recruiter. I was drug tested and had a background check all on the same day as the interview. At this Convergys location, I work for DIRECTV, so other locations with different clients may have different working conditions or procedures.

    Cons

There are many cons to working at Convergys and I would not recommend it to anyone on a long-term basis. I have only been working here for a little over two months, and am desperately seeking other employment. The training was fine, but it was very different from the actual work. I felt very unprepared to perform my job, despite the 8 weeks of training. It's difficult to get good hours, the nature of the work can be difficult due to verbally abusive customers, and I've been told different things by different people regarding policies of Convergys (PTO, schedule and hours) and answers to work-related questions. When hired, the recruiter did not make me aware that my performance would be measured by statistics (including number of disconnected accounts), which is a pretty important thing to know. Maybe I should have assumed my performance would be measured that way since it's a call center, but it was not explicitly stated. I get the feeling that many aspects of the job are hidden in an effort to recruit more people due to the high turnover rate. The dress code at my location is extremely laid back. While some may appreciate this, I believe that it contributes to a negative workplace culture in which employees are unmotivated and do not care about succeeding in their jobs. I also have some ethical concerns with working here. ATT owns DIRECTV so they make the rules that we follow on a day-to-day basis. After Hurricane Harvey and Irma affected customers in Texas and Florida, people called in to cancel their accounts due to financial hardship and destruction of their homes. I was told that we need to try to save the account no matter what, despite the natural disasters that have just occurred. This has made me realize that the higher ups at ATT/DIRECTV have no empathy or understanding, and are simply the money hungry managers in corporate America. Overall, my mental health has also declined since being hired. The amount of stress and anxiety this job causes me is becoming unbearable. If you have any other employment options besides Convergys, I would highly recommend pursuing those over this opportunity.

    Advice to Management

Encourage recruiters to be honest about the content of the job.
