I have been working at Conviva full-time

    Pros

My experience at Conviva has been great. It is truly a company with enormously talented, motivated and highly educated people. The sense of family and collaboration is what really stands out in this company with everyone being completely committed to the overall success of Conviva with a fundamental belief in the difference we are making to online video AI. Having the opportunity to work among such talent is humbling and fun.

    Cons

Overall it is hard to find something that is truly negative from my perspective but there is always room for improvement in any company. Here I would say that there are times when reaching a decision should happen more rapidly.

    I worked at Conviva full-time

    Pros

Catered lunches and stocked fridge. That's about it.

    Cons

    - Solutions Consultant training program needs a lot of work.

    - CEO was hardly ever in the office.

    Advice to Management

1.) Make sure when you hire people that you're not going to lay them off two months after you hire them.

2.) Please develop a better Solutions Consultant training program that actually develops good consultants.

3.) You do realize that the competition is starting to catch up to you and in order for you to stay relevant don't take anything for granted.

    2. Small but highly talented team, so huge potential for individual growth
    3. Moving towards great tools and technologies on the big data and data science domains
    4. Immense learning opportunity from smart peers, tech-leads and tech-managers.

    Cons

    1. Need to focus on having more clarity on its goals and roadmaps

    Advice to Management

There's a need for engineers in many teams. Please hire more engineers.

    I worked at Conviva full-time

    Pros

Competitive salary, startup perks (gym subsidy, catered meals), talented coworkers (mostly).

Functioning base product, good established customer base in the publisher segment, size of dataset serves as barrier to entry for new competitors.

    Cons

There were quite a few - leadership competence, product stagnation and very long-term unresolved tech debts were the most significant in my opinion. Also:

    - Employee churn is exceptionally high.
    - Management is surprisingly disconnected from day-to-day reality for a company this small.
    - Growth expectations and sales comp plans are unrealistic (repeatedly, year after year).
    - Customer expectations are frequently not met; products have not matured in years and have fallen industry trends behind due to lack of innovation. Some great "bones" here but atrophy has set in the last 2-3 years.
    - People in leadership roles make strange, inexplicable decisions (about hiring, retention, org structure, company and product direction) and are often unable to articulate them beyond jargon and buzzwords.
    - Company feels like it is thrashing - firing 1/3 of employees in Q4, then apparently re-hiring many of the same roles in Q1.
    - Getting anything done is difficult when many are new (to the company or the industry in general) and all organizations are suffering the staffing impacts from the October layoff. Staffing levels, in engineering in particular, make reasonable customer support or escalation responses impossible.
    - Some valuable personnel are leaving voluntarily, others are job-hunting.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the pleas from employees and customers - the needs have been consistent for a while. These are largely solvable problems.

    De-politicize decision making.

Staff and promote based on merit - there are good people there who can help, if you let them.

    I worked at Conviva full-time

    Pros

There are good people, however they are not elevated and put into leadership positions.

    Cons

Being first to market doesn't matter- if you were early to the market and don't iterate for 10+ years.

Sr/Executive leadership hasn't changed since the start and are out of touch with employees and customers.

    Advice to Management

Change needs to happen at the top - there are good people within Conviva that should be elevated to leadership.

Listen to customers - product can't be out of touch with the marketplace. Don't hire product managers that know nothing about the OTT space.

I have been working at Conviva (Less than a year)

    Pros

    * Company is in a great industry with a huge upside potential given the digital video growth
    * Brilliant group of engineers, data scientists and hard-working product organization with no ego and great hunger for success
    * Marketing and revenue organization is expanding with some great talent (& currently very efficient) and gearing for next level of growth thanks to leadership
    * HR seems well-prepared, very responsive with a solid recruitment team to attract top talent and grow the company. The whole interview process was smooth for me and well executed.
    * Company is truly focused on customer success, hence a strong group of people and leadership focused on this area of business. Happy customers keep the whole organization motivated
    * Office is well-lit with great lagoon views & kept very clean. Overall good working environment with daily catered lunches, social activities
    * Leadership team is very strong; CEO brings a very valuable culture of respect, humbleness and confidence. All of the above is quite hard to come across in Silicon Valley

    Cons

    * From time to time there are some growing pains that company should be more agile in addressing
    * More structure and well-defined processes in operations are needed as the company is evolving and maturing
    * There are some times when decision-making process is longer then it should be relative to the size of the company

    Advice to Management

    * Keep the focus on hiring and retaining the right talent & personalities and continue pursuing the culture you've built

I worked at Conviva full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Daily catering foods, flexible working style for everyone. Nothing positive as an engineer.

    Cons

Challenging is not for technology/products, for doing the same thing all the time. Never seen anyone working for performance, refactoring, and rearchitecture. Kept adding new features/bug fixes to more than 3 years products with no OO approach. Fast completion is praised, coding quality is never be questioned.

    Advice to Management

Nothing. The funding members never change. Now smart people are silently preparing for a next job.
