I have been working at Cook County Health and Hospitals System full-time

    Pros

Friendly coworkers, the most rewarding part of the job are the patients we serve

    Cons

Improvements take insurmountable efforts to achieve because of inflexible policies and leadership; good patient care suffers as a result of the red tape and politics; management only wants to dictate what changes to make and increase workload without listening to why they changes are not effective or patient-centered. This had lead to demoralization and MDs leaving.

I worked at Cook County Health and Hospitals System (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits, great pay, team work among staff is good, and flexible shifts in some areas. Some supervisors are very understanding.

    Cons

Clinic hours tend to over run often. Patients are sometimes rude even the physicians. Long wait time to see doctor even with an appointment.

I have been working at Cook County Health and Hospitals System (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits although they have changed them recently to be a lot less.

    Cons

Terrible Management that do not know what they are doing. Too many chiefs in this hospital and not enough Indians. Cannot get promotions easily at all because of union and politics. Do not waste your time if you are looking to expand your career. When they cut heads, they cut from bottom and not the top at all.

    Advice to Management

Look at your managers because many of them do not even know what they are doing and they do not even have any education. In the normal business world, companies cut from the top down not vice versa. Quit your politics and get rid of your managers that don't do anything.

I have been working at Cook County Health and Hospitals System full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Work-life balance, Benefits, Room for advancement

    Cons

The overall non-team oriented environment. Lack of dedication, direction(or goals), care from most employees for patients.

    Advice to Management

A lot of your older employees need to go. The older employees(meaning those who have worked for Cook County Hospital for numerous of years) are use to being able to do whatever because patients HAD to come to Cook County. You say that providing a great patient experience is the goal, but procedures, policies, and management don't match it. NO ONE is held accountable when the ball is dropped. If Obama care stays for 3-5 years to come, I don't see how you guys will survive it. You guys benefit from the ignorance of the patients, not knowing they have the option to go where they want.

I have been working at Cook County Health and Hospitals System full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Cost of benefits is low. Vacation PTO time is above average but being reduced. Most weekends off but that is ending as well.

    Cons

I just don't know where to start. The new management trust no one that works there now. All promotions are going to outside employees. Your education and experience means nothing if you have worked for them any significant time. No respect for their current employees. I have never heard of such a behavior from a management team unless they are there to close you.

    Advice to Management

Start over with a new C Suite team because this is the failure express.

    Pros

Benefits are very good. Some nice people who want to work, be accountable.

    Cons

Most everything else. Dept. is rudderless, inept, getting worse every year.

    Advice to Management

    What management?
