I have been working at Cook County Sheriff full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Don’t quit a good job for this entity.

    Cons

What a poorly run, entitled based place; more interested in plunging daggers in others backs than working. Pathetic dead end losers, sworn are a much better class than leadership. Time to preckwinckle Tom dart. Out of touch, not in charge and looking for his next political job.

I have been working at Cook County Sheriff full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

For civilians - unbeatable benefits, paid time off. Good municipal government experience for new graduates or new to government, interaction with collective bargaining groups. Some great minds that want to better the CJS

    Cons

"If you're not sworn, you're not born" - merit rank sworn officers generally treat administration (civilian staff) poorly. Bureaucracy, slow to change/adapt. Some incompetent employees that hold high positions only because of their seniority. Inability to find, tap and foster potential future leaders. Financial compensation for hardworking and skilled employee is rarely rewarded.

I worked at Cook County Sheriff full-time

    Pros

-OK pay -Stepping stone to move on to OTHER law enforcement agencies

    Cons

-It's all about who you know, they will say that's not true on paper left and right but as soon as it comes to actually getting fair assignments, you'll see it firsthand. -Not viewed as real law enforcement (not police certified) -Will get written up over things that are routinely ignored by 99% of officers but arbitrarily disciplined to show superiors that the supervisors are doing their jobs -Will take forever to remove false disciplinary reports from employment records, and it will affect your career in law enforcement if you decide to move on to other departments. -Sheriff will mostly side with inmates, be prepared for constant uphill battle -You have to buy everything for your job, even your service weapon -The union is a joke, you won't get proper backing unless you know someone.
