I worked at Cook County Sheriff full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Flexibility! Outstanding benefits. Plenty of overtime year round. Great family/work life. Many opportunities to work throughout the county. Camaraderie and lifestyle.?

    Cons

Morale is extremely low. You begin working at the jail before transferring to Courts or Police. Supervisors at the jail are incompetent. The jail is dirty and the conditions of the job are not OSHA compliment. Management does not care much for the health or well being of the employee. You are replaceable! Not to mention that management and supervisors have no more than a high school education and some are related to... inmates.

    Advice to Management

Cut 6 figure positions and staff the jail better. Fix morale! Invest in retaining staff. Rotate officers to outside units. Perhaps train jail officers to conduct DUI, code enforcement, traffic etc or simply assist at the courts and police districts.

I worked at Cook County Sheriff full-time

    Pros

Great co-workers to work with. White Shirts can be wonderful to work with. It is stepping stone to work in other law enforcement or security areas.

    Cons

Overall the morale of the officers are low and administration does not care. The county jail is run by administration with no jail experience.

    Advice to Management

Quick taking the inmates side and rewarding them for bad behavior and boost the officers morale instead.
