I worked at Cooper Industries full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I grew tremendously while at Cooper Industries (now Eaton). They had solid upper management, and were well seasoned.

    Cons

The ALP program touted that all participants would end up in GM positions. This was not the case. Rather, most participants ended up in product management type positions.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time understanding the challenges which exist in a lean workforce. More training would also go a long way.

    Pros

Having started in customer service the opportunities for training is vast.
    Great pay and benefits.
Support from management in seeking advancement in employment and personal growth.

    Cons

With strict rules in place since the merger with Eaton it has made it difficult to further a career with the company and though I have years of experience with the company and management has been very supportive I am unable to be a candidate for other areas of employment without a Bachelors degree.

    Advice to Management

Continue to encourage employees to reach for their goals!

I worked at Cooper Industries full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Cooper is now EATON Corporation and has a very large presence in the world. travel to the other countries was part of the exciting work. The salary was good for the job I did. Exciting work, training an enthusiastic group of people even with language barriers.

    Cons

Excessive amount of travel , takes a toll on your physical being and family life.

    Advice to Management

Don't treat your employees like an old shoe only to be discarded at will. Take care of them and respect their family needs when they are taking care of your business needs. These long travel times and separations do affect peoples lives and causes upheavals due to breakups, separations and divorces..... Allow people to recover from jet lag and don't expect them to come to work the very next day after their return from travel to distant places.

    Pros

Co workers are nice. Decent pay. good experience for someone out of college.

    Cons

Definition of Micro Management. It's all about your title on who makes the call. No advancement opportunity. No efficient business process. Unhappy Customer leads to Unhappy Employees.

    Advice to Management

Don't abuse your title. Listen to your co-workers.

    Pros

Great team of employees with a lot of talent. Cross functional teams work well together and work for the success for the teams.

    Cons

The business is not staffed to achieve growth target expectations of management (Eaton). The result is that the good employees that are still there are burnt out and leaving for other opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Fill open positions. Staff the organization to achieve the growth targets. Reward talent that has stuck it out through the bumpy time and the integration of the buy-out.
