I have been working at Cooper Tire & Rubber full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

It is still a good paying job for those of us that have been there for many years. The employees are friendly and supportive.

    Cons

It is very hard work and not worth breaking your back over for the pay that is offered. No one hired now will ever get to full pay and must work along side those who will make 10 to 30% more for the same amount of work. They have changed the insurance for new hires so that it is more than one can afford for the pay. The working conditions are not great. Upper management has no clue what goes on in the plant and there is a lack of communication inside as well. The floor supervisors can only do so much when moral is at an all time low.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to work with the working class. If it takes taking a psychology course then so be it. Barking orders will only get you so far before people turn on you.

I worked at Cooper Tire & Rubber full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The Industry and the people that you work beside in the "Industry". A small portion of your co-workers are great and will pull their weight.

    Cons

The culture is terrible. The on-boarding process is a complete disaster that leaves a new hire alienated and detached. The investment into other "house brands" is lacking, thus having a product offering that is both antiquated and not in demand. Middle management is not experienced to react. Senior management could care less.

I worked at Cooper Tire & Rubber full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The actually employees are great and they are some of the best people you'll ever meet during the time they work there. The place is a flexible work place to have a family.

    Cons

To start - you have an executive committee who is on a mission to sell the place to the highest bidder which completely crushes the sliver of morale it had. Second - there is a massive disconnect between technical leadership and employees while one person's focus on creating an empire irregardless of whether anything actually gets developed or people have things to work on seems to cause conflict among groups. Third - the implementation and mandatory usage of SAP has crippled this place. Last - it features a ruthless HR department who will take it to you at every turn with contracts and pays you bargain basement salaries with average to below average benefits (you have to give them a blood sample every year to get any type of discount on your health insurance). It's a good place to work and build your experience but don't expect to stay long as there is no future and zero employee development and planning unless of course you are a 100% "yes" man. This place is a high turnover place so don't get comfortable with the people you work with.

    Advice to Management

Sell out as fast as you can so that way the new company cleans house through the ranks of upper management in technical and HR and maybe people will be happy again not dealing with childish management and lack of leadership.
