I have been working at Cooper Union full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good location in Manhattan, New York.

    Cons

There are plenty of cons. There is little or no opportunities for professional development. A small group makes decisions in a mafia-like style. This place is essentially racist; if you are Latino or African American, I would advise not to work there. The quality of education is clearly overrated.

    Pros

    Summer Fridays, vacation time, location

    Cons

Managers take credit for work of subordinates, extensive micromanaging, no upward mobility, lack of interest in improving or changing processes. Administration was unable to deal with PR and finance crisis from President all the way down.

I have been working at Cooper Union part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working at the computer center is mostly being on call so you usually get a good amount of studying done. Chris Lent and Bob Hopkins are great people to work with, very knowledgeable and friendly! You can learn a lot from this job.

    Cons

Some full time faculty in the computer center are very hard to work with. They will make working here challenging but this is what you will face in the real world. Good to gain experience.

    Advice to Management

This is not aimed toward Chris Lent or Bob Hopkins. Other management, please try to treat your operators more kindly.

    Pros

The faculty and students make it all worthwhile. I loved the school and it had and still has my heart.

I retired and they gave me a wonderful sendoff.

    Cons

Administration is not involved with what really goes on. I was not backed up as far as any authority goes and one personality conflict was not addressed year after year until I chose to leave a place I loved. One of the 2 best jobs I ever had bu the role of my supervisor, the deans office was always only in a punitive and not supportive role. All my good works was largely ignored by the administration who was rarely there. The supervisor for all staff was the Dean who was really totally uninvolved. Great work or minimal work was largely treated the same. My extreme motivation was whittled away year by year so I used reaching retirement age as way to leave .

    Advice to Management

If you are a supervisor back up your people- motivate your people- Take your heads out of your office and walk around and see whats going on. Don't go by the word of minions. Ask your people how you can help them do a better job
