I worked at Coppin State University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Campus has potential. It fulfills a purpose and niche in West Baltimore. Worst professional experience in my 20+ years in higher education.

    Cons

Poor leadership. No vision. Declining enrollments. Poor retention and graduation rates. Undisciplined faculty and staff. Good employees are undervalued and leave. Dead weight employees stay for life.

    Advice to Management

Merge before Middlestates closes your doors. Lose the formalities. Put more focus on substance and less on show.

I worked at Coppin State University part-time

    Pros

They work with your class schedule and for most jobs you can come in when ever you want

    Cons

Not garnered to stay in the same position and your paid the same amount as other no matter the job so weather your an assistant or a computer room watcher you make the same.

    Advice to Management

allow employees to return to previous positions without being put on a waiting list

    Pros

    Great benefits
Seeing people coming from nothing trying to better themselves.

    Cons

Low academic standards and horrendous quality
    Revolving door of leadership
    Inept employee communication
Crooked HR too concerned with politics to address rampant racism
    Corrupt management in some departments
    Actively promoting segregation
Gross lack of professionalism (for example, faculty chairs fist fighting at department meetings, hygiene issues, etc.),
Campus crime (homeless people living in stairwells, students and staff routinely smoking pot and crack in academic buildings, etc.)

    Advice to Management

USM, shut it down. The academic standards are atrocious, and in some cases, students leave less prepared for the real world than when they entered.

I have been working at Coppin State University full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Coppin has great benefits, usually a good work schedule and the potential to learn and grow!! Close to the city and the county.

    Cons

Increase the overall salary scale for faculty and increase the diversity in both the professors and students.

I have been working at Coppin State University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you have no other choice, it is better than no job at all. And, based upon other remarks, your experience really depends EXACTLY where you work and with whom. Maybe you'll get lucky. I have met several hard-working, committed individuals, but they are over shadowed by a non-supportive, top-down leadership style. Avery is no longer President.

    Cons

My experience has been awful. it has been disorganized and is in disarray. Lacks competent leadership.

    Advice to Management

The problems begin with management. There is a top down, very controlling leadership style which squashes innovation and change unless it comes from the top. Management fails to exploit much of the latent talent at this institution.

I worked at Coppin State University full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Anyone can get hired here. In fact, most of the faculty are former students

    Cons

You will waste your time. This school is a wasteland. I wasted 5 years of my academic career after finishing my PhD from a top Ivy League school, I believed in the mission and the goals but he environment is toxic. The leadership is poor. The pay is below livable. And to make matters worse, its in a very dangerous part of Baltimore. Dont waste your time, your sacrifices will not be appreciated.

    Advice to Management

    Fire everyone and start over.
