I have been working at CorVel full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They offer remote employment and flexible work schedule. We are allowed to work any 8 hour shift between 7a-7p and they also offer extended lunch periods. They have started having monthly team meetings which allows us to function better as a department.

    Cons

They have been understaffed for over 3 years without much improvement. Morale is low and turnover rate is high. Health insurance is very expensive and other benefits like paid vacation are also not very good. Pay is OK.

    Advice to Management

Work harder to hire and train more people. Listen to your team. Yearly raises should be higher for the amount of work we've all had for the past 3+ years.

I worked at CorVel full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Steady work, nice people, middling benefits. Some of the managers really care about their people.

    Cons

Top management is stagnant. People at the top leave, and instead of replacing them, other top managers are given their responsibilities, plus what they already have. Salaries are a little below average.

    Pros

Great office with a lot of different people and new challenges every day. Fast paced to complete the daily goals and continue with the work flow.

    Cons

Benefits are not the greatest. Production goals are easily met, but a constant watch to make sure they are met and kept timely.

I worked at CorVel full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with, flexible schedules, nice offices and friendly co-workers. There is no micromanagement for the most part . There is autonomy on the job depending on the geographical area.

    Cons

Top Heavy management, little opportunity for advancement , less than affordable benefits , skinny PTO, they will let you go if you are sick beyond allowed time regardless of your loyalty to the company and top performance.

    Advice to Management

Learn to value your star employees. You make enough profit to share your wealth, give employees decent benefits.

    Pros

Decent pay and benefits. Nice offices and location. Enjoyable work.

    Cons

Will let people go if they are sick and miss too many days regardless if you have made up the time and produce above expectations.

    Advice to Management

Treat all employees with respect and know and understand the new processes before implementing them.

I have been working at CorVel (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Its a good job, the one benefit I would bet everyone enjoys is you get a paycheck twice a month.

    Cons

Morale is very low, the medical benefits are expensive, and the office seems to be segregated between the EC and Bill reviewers.

    Advice to Management

Engage in your staff, figure out why the moral is low and offer suggestions to help correct it.

    Pros

Good people. Some work/life flexibility. Pay is competitive.

    Cons

Benefits are underwhelming; you are likely to get an equivalent if not better deal on medical insurance buying from the public marketplace.

    Advice to Management

Work to eliminate existing development team silos.

    Pros

    1. Facilities are clean and modern, Corvel most definitely doesn't take short cuts with surface level appearance.
    2. Generally speaking, staff and co-workers are friendly.
    3. Job security.

    Cons

    1. Disconnect from executive management.
    2. Lack of training and support from corporate.
    3. Unrealistic expectations.
    4. If you believe in karma, this may not be the job for you.

    Advice to Management

Consider delivering real value to your customers. Putting lipstick on a pig and calling it a pony doesn't make it so. The sales pitches to prospective customers are a sham. Looks good on paper and powerpoint, but 75% of it isn't true. Quite an awkward feeling when on a group sales tour and the prospects believe they are buying a brand new Porche...but in reality, at best, they will be receiving a used Honda Civic.
