I worked at Corbis full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some of the best people I've ever known were those I worked with at Corbis. And once you whittle away the chaff of lesser imagery, Corbis also represented some of the most compelling and memorable photography in the world.

    Cons

Senior Management outside of this office had an uncanny knack for mismanagement. There seemed to be little understanding of image licensing and the industry sectors that utilized our services. Whether it was willful ignorance or abject obtuseness, it is frankly astonishing how those most chiefly responsible for the company's downfall survived while hundreds lost their jobs across multiple continents. Shameful.

    Advice to Management

Apparently, so far you've disproven the concept of karma. Hopefully you've learned something from what has happened over the past several years, though by looking at the new company's website (and a certain bio) -- that does not appear to be the case so far.

I worked at Corbis (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great, hard-working people who in some cases have been there for years which makes it feel like a family. The company is always expanding and acquiring new companies which is great in terms of staying relevant.

    Cons

One of the biggest issues with the company is that it continues to change it's organizational direction. Year to year, your role can change without anyone even telling you that you are doing something you were never hired to do. If you dont meet the requirements for the new direction you will be let go - layoffs are constant at this company.

    Advice to Management

Figure it out before you move too quickly in one direction. Also, build better connections to make deals happen - some teams have more pressure than others to produce.

I worked at Corbis (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I've met lots of good people in my time at Corbis. It does attract talented folks who are enjoyable to work with. Corbis also provided opportunities to flex creative muscles, good benefits, casual work atmosphere, and a convenient location.

    Cons

Frequent layoffs, enigmatic leadership, frequently shifting business strategies - all resulting in a confused and unconfident work force and a business tilting on the edge of failure

    Advice to Management

HIRE A NEW CEO, invest in some long-term planning, and stick to a consistent business plan.

    Pros

Paycheck, working with talented and passionate peers.

    Cons

Signing the contract. Working with talented, visionaries who keep getting kicked in the ribs at every turn. What a waste of everyone's time. Lack of any direction, completely reactionary. Don't buy anything or get comfortable with life! Save your clams for the looming layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Run. Obviously the CEO doesn't care about you whilst has Mr. Gates under a spell.

    Pros

The content is something to be proud. The people behind the business, save for upper management, are amazing and are very knowledgable.

    Cons

They are allowing the images segment of the business to die a slow death. All resources are given to the entertainment side of the business including headcount.

    Advice to Management

If resources and technology are not given to a decline business segment please do not blame the individuals on those teams. Chalk it up to a business decision and stand by it.

    Cons

They fire people left and right and give bad excuses as to why.
They don't do much to make the employee feel appreciated
There isnt really room for growth
