I worked at Corbis full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Full benefits, 401K, Medical, Dental. 4 weeks vacation for senior employees + 4 extra days off (floating holidays) per year.

    Cons

Company no longer exists, was acquired by Visual China Group who now distributes the stills/footage library through Getty Images.

    Advice to Management

I wish the powers that be would have scaled down on other business opportunities and focused on the core stills/motion business. We accomplished a lot with a small amount of people.

I worked at Corbis full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Colleagues were the best part of this job. A very talented bunch of image professionals. Top of class photography. Good benefits. Flexible hours.

    Cons

Office culture was not cultivated. Management keep cutting costs to improve bottom line. Talent drain due to frequent change of direction.

    Advice to Management

Have more faith in the content and the people who grew the company. Don't give up.

I worked at Corbis full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Working with many of the staff there was the most enjoyable aspect of the job during the 9 years I was there.

    Cons

I (and many others there) disagreed with many (most?) of the decisions made by upper management in regards to their direction of the company. Nonetheless, we supported their choices once they were made.

    Advice to Management

Although company has changed (Images group has been sold) the senior management still exists and needs to recognize their strengths and weaknesses.

there were a lot of great people, a lot of great ideas. benefits were good and there were attempts at keeping morale up.

    Cons

there never was the right mix of keeping things moving incrementally with the need to also do big things. now part of getty

I worked at Corbis full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great family atmosphere. Loved my coworkers and clients. Exciting industry to be part of.

    Cons

Too many layoffs and different directions. The company needs to maintain one business plan and stick to it.

    Pros

Best benefits in town; great Seattle office location in Pioneer Square; good equipment; great company mission, easy to rally behind; attracts lots of bright dedicated folks

    Cons

The challenging stock photography and creative images market makes it very tough going; Getty is the bohemian in the market with a little something of everything which makes it toug for boutique shops - which Corbis ultimately is - to win consistent, big agreements.

    Advice to Management

Reorient around entertainment, which it seems is long underway. Maintain a focus on employee communications, an area that has always lagged, to make sure everyone is rowing the same direction.

I worked at Corbis (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent benefits. Good employees. Nice offices.

    Cons

Unfocused direction. Underutilize employee's skills. Not an agile company, and can't figure out how to monetize its vast collection.

I worked at Corbis full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company's creative mission was inspiring. I loved working for a company that honored photographers and photographs and helped make it possible for the craft to be successful as a business.

    Cons

Corbis is, essentially, a pet project and tax write-off for Bill Gates. Executive leadership was not held accountable enough for executing to strategy, fostering good business and leadership practices and company values, and supporting company employees.

    Advice to Management

Take the company seriously. The industry is one that requires re-invention and there have been change agents inside the company who were not heard. You can keep the artistic spirit and mission and still pay attention to good business practices and make the company successful.

I worked at Corbis full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, including awesome vacation time and PTO
The people are the reason I stuck around for 3 years
    Paid ORCA card
    Awesome middle management

    Cons

Layoffs at least twice a year
Executive leadership only look to fatten their own pockets
Entire departments would just be gone from one month to the next

    Advice to Management

Stop letting people go all the time and expect to do better financially. You are just doubling another employee's workload and creating a stressful and fearful atmosphere.

I have been working at Corbis full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

global company, global clients and team members

    Cons

upper management, lack of communication, silos maintained

    Advice to Management

in my exit interview, I commented on all of the content in this review to the hr specialist. communicate, communicate, communicate. the lack of communication varied department to department so if you were in one which did it well, you were better off. find out what your team does and value it. again, its about communication. tear down the silos that you talk about tearing down. it's listed a company value, but so often it was not the case in upper management. please get managers the training they need. being in that role does not always mean that they should be in that role.
