I have been working at Corbis as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly people and a company that has a great working atmosphere and culture. They really care about their employees, and it shows in all of our day to day activities.

    Cons

The only downside for me is commuting to Seattle, but even that is not much of a con because they give me an ORCA card to catch the train.

    Pros

    Great career development potential
    Casual and collaborative work environment
    Management genuinely cares about employees
Global company with international prestige and growth strategy

    Cons

Company is in a state of flux as it is exiting from a retrenchment due to the recession and begins rapid expansion. Also, some office processes are antiquated.

    Advice to Management

Continue to pursue global growth and acquisitions as a way to combat the threat of microstock proliferation. Keep the emphasis on making Corbis a great place to work.

    Pros

Corbis has the mission of "empowering creativity," and truly its suite of products from photos, to videos, to iconic personalities are very inspiring. The employees are very talented and typically come from a top-tier creative or technology background. The company is rooted in an industry that has been significantly disrupted (stock photography), and that has led to a lot of positive, transformative change. It feels in many ways that the company is finally unleashig its potential and fulfilling the expectations that so many people have had of it over the years, given the Bill Gates ownership. For "entrepreneurs" who thrive on change and the opportunity that it creates, Corbis is a great place to develop your career.

    Cons

The company is in a state of constant change, and sometimes it can be overwhelming for people who like stabile work environments. Additionally, while the company is on a great track, sometimes the challenges of overcoming its more traditional culture get in the way -- however, this is quickly changing for the better as the company gains focus and momentum from its new directions.

    Advice to Management

Change and a constant drive towards profitability and improved performance is great, but never forget the importance of investing in employees and developing your culture along the way. Your strategy is very solid, make sure that you always have the same focus on the people.

I worked at Corbis as an intern

    Pros

Great hands-on experience to work on specific projects as designated by the legal team. Exposure to copyright practice.

    Cons

It would be great if the internship had an opportunity for growth into a full-time position. None of the interns I worked with were employed by the company for a permanent position.
