I worked at Core Laboratories full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Management is laid back.
Good about letting you get sleep sometimes... (read cons).

    Cons

Most companies tell you to treat your position at the company as if it were your own business. However you cannot control what other people do I.E. damage equipment, or start a job and not do the necessary paperwork. Most people start this job as entry level because they are so desperate to find petroleum inspectors, they don't get any formal training and this leads to jobs being very unorganized and the more experienced people have to pick up this slack all the time. I can say from working at 3 different companies that none of them are different. They will suck the life from you. The worst part about this position is that you are on call 24 hours a day, even if you get the necessary amount of sleep you still might not have time for a shower or to eat etc. so you have to juggle between those things. If you are working to a point where you are too tired to drive, don't! It is not worth risking your life over... These companies need to learn the hard way. The turn-over rate is extremely EXTREMELY high! The reason for this is apparent.

    Advice to Management

Show more respect to veteran employee's.
Implement proper training programs for new employees instead of putting them into the field when they are not ready which causes more stress on the current employees and the staff in general.

I worked at Core Laboratories full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The benefits were good. My supervisor was very understanding and willing to work with my schedule once I started attending school part time.

    Cons

Compensation was not very competitive. Did not seem like it there were many opportunities to grow within the company. But it was a good company for an entry level technician.

    Pros

A globally recognized Science oriented company with core competency in Rocks, Fluids and Geoscience services. Their expertise involves providing professional Laboratory and Field services for the Oil and Gas Industry from Exploration to Production and Refinery sectors. Opportunities for Field or Overseas travel on permanent or projects basis provides good exposure to the industry.

    Cons

Extended working time or odd hours is a commitment mandatory depending on exploration schedule that cannot be avoided. Field work demands odd working hours in offshore/onshore conditions globally not to mention at remote locations. Current downturn in O&G industry has resulted in downsizing.

    Advice to Management

Keep pushing for new technologies and maintain good assets and people. The experts are excellent, committed and have a passion for what they do.

I worked at Core Laboratories full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Core Lab is a good place to work overall. They have improved benefits and compensation to be more competitive in the industry.

    Cons

Some management still have appearances of caring only about the bottom line and investors over employees.

I worked at Core Laboratories (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great salary until we found out it was illegal. Incredible Benefits package and mostly decent management.

    Cons

Some managers inherited their positions and keep leaders down or eliminated. It's really changed since I started. Now you have to be a yes man to keep your job.

    Advice to Management

Use the employee education system to recruit management from within.

I worked at Core Laboratories full-time

    Pros

    Rewarding for exceptional performance.
Growth when performance and business conditions are good.
Great co-workers and good team spirit towards meeting Goals and Objectives.

    Cons

Fiscal diligence includes lean workforce with demanding work expectations.
Giving year after year of similar exceptional performance becomes a standard performance expectation. Future rewards/recognition are then based on raising the 'bar' from your previous exceptional performance.

    Advice to Management

My evaluation of your Fiscal Diligence was an important criteria before I considered working for Core Laboratories. Remember the formula for sustaining success: 1) Customer Service; 2) Proprietary Customer Solutions ;and ; 3) 'Drive Profit/Loss control and responsibility to the smallest cost center' .
In reference to my comments 'Cons' there is a distinct danger of the continual raising the bar of expectations can create an environment of diminishing rewards for your best staff.
