I have been working at Corel full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Corel is an equal opportunity employer. Employees have good work life balance. Work is always interesting and challenging, we have creative freedom to design and develop the module. Colleagues are very supportive and share knowledge.

    Cons

Not much to say. Only thing is Company headquarters are in Ottowa, Canada. So the Compnay focus is on growing the team in Canada, Not much attention is given to the employees in CA, US.

    Advice to Management

Not much to say. Management is great, they always listen to what employees need.

    Pros

The people are awesome. Everyone gets along and there are virtually no conflicts. It's a fun and often challenging environment to work in. Communication from upper management has improved 100% over the years. You get a true feeling that you are part of a large team, all working toward a single goal of success.

    Cons

The same as all companies in the high-tech sector -- the fear of cutbacks and downsizing.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing.

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

Exposure to new technologies. The people were fun to work with and for the most part enjoyed their jobs. Employee events, and fun days were appreciated. Very good place to start a career, people in Ottawa recognize the the talent of Corel employees. Free coffee (the good stuff) and pop. Very good work home balance. I was always able to take time from work to look after home and family.

    Cons

Long hours without proper compensation. A lot of the time managers felt that it was necessary to do overtime just for the doing overtime. No willingness to provide relevant training. Cut backs and lack of R&D spending limit the amount of positions available to move into.

    Advice to Management

Spend on R&D. More on the research part

    Pros

Nice people. There are some interesting opportunities both in profesional sense and in climbing corporate ladder.
    Overall, positive work environment.

    Cons

Job security - I guess it is the same for all IT jobs in the developed word.

    Advice to Management

Consider long-term goals rather then just worrying about this quoter

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

The General Manager of my division was the reason I joined the company. He was inspiring and made you believe in this division's future.

    Cons

It was challenging to deal with the changes when our CEO left for another job, and a new interim CEO joined.

    Advice to Management

Even though they were hired under different leadership, it would have been great if management allowed people to do what they were originally hired to do.
