    I worked at Corel full-time

    Pros

    • Lenient Office regulations.
    • Allocated days for sick leaves, vacation leaves, and emergency leaves.
    • You have your own workstation.
    • Fixed work schedule.

    Cons

    • The company focuses on selling new versions of their products each year instead of releasing innovative and good quality software.
    • Bad business decisions like acquiring small software companies yet having trouble of keeping them profitable.
    • Office politics, favoritism, and gossiping is the norm.
    • Constant lay-offs to cut expenses.
    • Salary is low and may remain the same each year.
    • Their loyal yet old customer base is dying out, they're not reaching out to younger customers.

    Advice to Management

The glory days of Corel has long been gone, a change in focus is needed.

    Pros

Good place to get a start and learn to work at a breakneck pace, which really is a valuable skill. Pay can be good, flexible hours (with the right manager) and some interesting projects. People who stay value work/life balance over career progression, which isn't a bad thing.

    Cons

Very little room to grow. Constant lay-offs, shrinking budgets, uncertainty. New management squeezing every last cent out of operations/products, leaving little room for creativity and growth.

    Advice to Management

More work-sponsored social outings. Used to happen more but as the company has shrunken, so has the hospitality.
