    Pros

Working in a field I didn't know existed and learning new things without knowing what they were from the start.

    Cons

Not knowing what does what from the start and having to learn it all new equipment and the process things get done

    Advice to Management

Doing very well with the fiber optics division for testing of new products

I have been working at Corning full-time

    Pros

Company values their employees, safety, and reputation. Corning puts an emphasis on personal development and career planning.

    Cons

Could be better with work life balance, they preach this but do not practice it. Not very transparent with different levels of the orginazation.

    Advice to Management

Communicate goals and plans and track progress according to these long term goals. Do not respond with short sightedness and non-data driven decisions.

  4. "Well Managed Intern Program"

I worked at Corning as an intern

    Pros

I was given work to do on actually projects hat were going on, not just busy organizing share drives or fetching coffee

    Cons

Because interns are only there for a couple months, they don't get a lot of work, therefore there can be periods where there is a lot of down time.

Also, because Corning is a big company, they move at rather a slower pace than you'd expect, for instance, a project was running 2 months behind, but everyone acted as if that was normal and to be expected.

I worked at Corning full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Culture that fosters a family type relationship with employees
    - Great management in my department. Very supportive and helped whenever asked.
    - In my division, there was ample opportunity to travel and work on various projects. I would never get bored
    - The opportunity to work in many different business units within my role
    - I may be a unique case, but I had a lot of ownership for an entry level engineer. I enjoyed this because I could see how great of an impact my contributions were
    - Co-workers are looking to set you up for success and not failure

    Cons

    - Pay is average
    - Career advancement is slower for younger employees
    - Corning, NY is a remote town in a rural area. This will be very tough for people who came from a large metropolitan area.

    Advice to Management

Many tech companies out there streamline processes to advance their employees (especially young ones). Corning must do whatever they can to retain young talent.

Also, improve standardization across the organization so that there is better cohesion among the business units.
